Hear My Story at Glappitnova 2015

by afrobella

Most of the time when I’m called upon to speak, there’s a theme. Usually it’s a panel about blogging or career success. In 2012 I gave a TedX talk and the theme I was assigned was courage (click here to see it, in case you never did). This week, I’m going to be part of a special Chicago speaking event called Glappitnova. And there’s no theme or topic – just me, sharing a story or a life lesson or whatever I feel compelled to share on this special evening that will bring together a truly diverse collection of creative Chicagoans. But wait. First. What IS Glappitnova?

It’s an 8 day celebration of curated excellence, bringing together entrepreneurs, creatives, and influencers spanning a variety of industries. It’s about highlighting Millennial culture, sharing industry perspectives, and providing a diverse stage for some of Chicago’s best and undiscovered talent.

I’ll be one of the speakers at Glappitnova’s The Big Night Showcase – right after the fashion show during the Taste of Chicago! What’s The Big Night all about? I’ll let the folks at Glappitnova explain.

Some say Glappitnova’s The Big Night showcase is like a funky mixture of South By Southwest and TED Talks with a party infused into the mix. Some of the brightest, and craziest Chicagoans will take over the stages spanning multiple rooms starting at 6:00pm July 9th, at Moonlight Studios. Whether a participant this year is a world leader in internet virality, worked for the President, Shark Tank contestant, or were on American Idol, they all have 10 minutes to wow the crowd. You never know what to expect. We will provide the funk, performances, storytelling, and the beer. Advance tickets only, and it should be worth your time attending.

For me, it should be thrilling and slightly terrifying. Like all great moments in public speaking.
Click here to buy tickets to The Big Night July 9th, 2015 – and if you enter the code AFROBELLA, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Sarah’s Circle. See you Thursday! Click here to visit Glappitnova.com for more details.

WOW! I just watched your TEDTALK. Your “exercise in courage” was truly affirming for me. I admire you so much for being vulnerable and allowing your inner strength to unmask your fears. You are a remarkable Light!…Thank you so much for sharing your journey. I know it will help others, as well as myself…. Congrats on your upcoming opportunities!! Remember, your supporters send gratitude to the Universe for giving unabashedly of yourself. Your star is a beacon of encouragement to so many women striving daily to “see” their worth & beauty, and to move beyond the fears… FYI You are beautiful!!!!!
