Hat tip to Jack and Jill Politics for the name suggestions for the new Democratic ticket!
I have been steering clear of politics lately, just because I notice a clear correlation with my high blood pressure and paying close attention to every detail of this election race. You already know what my hopes for the future are. But what do I know? Back in January, I actually thought an Obama/Edwards ticket was the thing to beat. Imagine how disappointed I was to see a shameful dalliance with a Tom Petty lookalike derail that dream. (Sorry to be so uncharacteristically snarky, but I’m still mad about that. Talk about a news story that raised my blood pressure).
Last night when I put on my Ojamas and dreamed up my ideal Democratic ticket (just kidding – I don’t actually own a pair of Ojamas. But aren’t they adorable?), I imagined a wild card candidate and kept Joe Biden on the back burner. I definitely think he’s a great debater and talk show guest because of his straight shooting nature, but his history of gaffes and misstatements makes me unsure that he’d be a wise choice — Jack and Jill Politics also pointed all of that out recently, which gave me even more pause. Still, I definitely admire his foreign policy skills.
This is a veep with issues — he speaks his mind and has said stupid things in the past — he really, really needs to self-edit a whole lot better. But still, I like him. I really like him. And I think he makes this the change and experience ticket, which I believe would be hard to beat. I am cautiously optimistic. But enough about what I think — I don’t claim to be extremely politically knowledgeable, by any means. Just passionate and engaged. Feel free to step in and school me on your thoughts on the ticket.
What do you all think?

Man. Everybody seems to be rushing to come up with a nickname for the pair. I think Obama-Biden kinda rolls of the tongue. O’Biden is just bad. 🙂

Would yo mama vote for Jobama? LOL
I don’t know much about Joe Biden yet but I’m interested in seeing what he’s all about.

I am stoked! This was the best choice. It shows sound judgment on Obama’s part to choose someone who will complement him and fill his weaknesses. I couldn’t be happier and relieved. I am optimistic about our future. After the announcement last night, I spent a couple hours watching Joe Biden footage on YouTube. Here’s a guy who understands how the world works. We need Obama / Biden to restore our standing and regain respect in the international community.

“JoBama” is cute, but I’d rather see the POTUS candidate’s name in front of his VP mate. Obama-Biden is just fine with me. I think Joe would look great in a fresh pair of Ojamas, myself 😉 Thanks for linking to us.

I am watching Obama and Biden on tv as we speak. I too thought that Edwards was the perfect vp -(LOL to the Tom Petty look alike comment) and I was sorely disappointed when the affair came to light. Not sure about Biden – he tends to be longwinded and that is usually when he says things that he must later clarify but he does have the foreign affairs knowledge that may appeal to those who would not vote for Obama because this is an area where he is lacking. I like the ticket and will checkout Youtube when the speeches are through. No nicknames – Obama/Biden works well with me.

This was an excellent choice for Mr. Obama to choose Mr. Biden as his running mate.I have watched Mr. Biden on a few Sunday morning news shows defending Mr. Obama as if he was his little brother.I just hope that he is not hiding anything ,because the gloves are about to come off.

“If you want change then vote for Obamaden”.

I also was a Obama/Edwards hopeful, my how things change!! I thin that Obama/Biden is a pretty good coalition and as has already been stated Biden does have the foreign experience that Obama needs and lacks. I guess now we just have to wait and see what happens…
Should be interesting!

I too a) have to watch my blood pressure around election news b) thought an Obama-Edwards ticket would be my dream team. (You are DEAD WRONG for that Tom Petty crack, too. lol)
Personally I would have liked two youngsters on the ticket but I’m fine with Biden, particularly if he’s willing to take off the kid gloves and speak his natural mind on McBush. Today’s speech was a nice preview.

MOST POLITICIANS OFFICIAL LANGUAGE IS LIE-ESE* (ladies, you know your men speak this as well…most women don’t speak it, but we know when it’s being spoken to us or around us, right?)
Obama SEEMS like he’s a lil’ different…but you know they usually tell you every thing you want to hear until….they get elected.*(Or get what they want from you)
So for now…I will give Obama the benefit of the doubt and just say that he needs Biden as a “translator” so to speak.

I just stumbled upon this blog…make-up, L Boogie and Edwards talk? Shit girl I think I love you.

Think I love you? Oh there is nothing but love for Afrobella and the other bellas.
Biden is the perfect choice, he was my second fave after the Man Obama in the Dem Primaries. He keeps it real, works hard and really loves this country. It is a perfect match. Biden estimated worth is around $100,000 total, and the Obama’s just recently got out of debt thanks to Obama’s best-selling bookss. So these are two folks who have worked to live the American dream and I believe they want more of us to share in that dream.
So much love to JObama O’Biden, whatever you call them, I am calling them the next President and Vice President of these United (united, nice word ain’t it?) States of America.
Peace

Man, I feel like we simultaneously dodged a bullet and missed a great opportunity when Edwards fell out of the veep-stakes.:-(
Pouring over the above links, plus other articles from the regulars (NYT, CNN, NPR etc), I was most struck by this line from, of all places, Britain’s “Telegraph”:
“The Delaware senator is a combative orator who can play the “attack dog” role when the election gets nasty…”
Waiiiit. Not to be too simplistic, but is Biden our Cheney? Is that a good thing? Might be. The experience, the sometimes ill-chose statements– just not, you know, seething with evil like ol’ Dick, lol.
At first blush I agree he’s the best choice to balance out the ticket. Let’s get him diversity training and then prep for McCain’s opening salvos!

Oh D’OH! You linked to the same Telegraph article. Ahaha, sorry for being redundant. Carry on.

Biden looks like Obama’s uncle.
Jacqueline
Lots of energy up in here…I’m coming back! 🙂

I am still not sure about the Obaden ticket.
diana
I think Biden was a good choice. Biden experience with foreign policy, an area that Obama is not to knowledgeable about makes the two a perfect pair.
Ojamas
Look what just went up on e-Bay… a one-of-a-kind first-run pair of Ojamas!
