2010 has been quite a year. Through the ups and downs, you’ve stuck by me and I am thankful for every one of you! To celebrate 4 years of Afrobella, my site being back up and running, happiness and health – I’m giving you 12 Days of Giveaways!
On Christmas Day, Afrobella gave to me – the first ever Afrobella Mom of the Year contest!
She works hard to take care of her loved ones. She does her best to provide for her family. All day long she’s doing, doing doing – always for somebody else. Maybe she’s raising her own kids. Maybe she’s raising someone else’s. Maybe she works with a charity that helps to take care of kids who are in need. She never gets to relax and indulge with the kind of pampering pleasures we all deserve.
Until now.
Bellas, I am so so very proud to present the last giveaway in the 12 Days of Giveaways.
It’s the first annual Afrobella Mom of the Year contest — brought to you by the good folks of General Mills and the I <3 BKFST movement! The video you see here explains it all:
So to reiterate: in order to win the Mom of the Year Award of a $300 Spa Week gift card and a $200 Toys R Us gift card:
#1 –I really would appreciate it if you “like” the General Mills I <3 BKFST Facebook page and click here to take the I <3 BKFST pledge.
#2 – Create a response video on YouTube, or if you can’t make a video response, just leave a comment here telling me why your nominee for Afrobella Mom of the Year deserves to win! Also, I need to know their best I <3 BKFST tip, or advice for a healthy breakfast.
It’s Christmas Day, so I hope you’re enjoying the company of your own personal Mom of the Year.
I’ll leave these comments open till December 31 so you can have time to enjoy time with friends and family and THEN comment on your favorite blog!
Merry Christmas! Good luck!

I have to nominate my mother. I came down with a severe case of facial shingles in September and have been pretty sick for several months. My mother brought me groceries while I was quarantined, took me to various doctors appointments and not only got my medicine, but since I am uninsured sometimes even paid for them. She even came and did housecleaning for me. Afrobella, my mother is retired. She should be kicking her feet up and instead she was caretaker for me. I would love to give her this as a small way of saying Thanks.

I would like to nominate my mother-in-law. Many tell of how difficult their relationship is with their mother-in-law, however, my relationship with my mother is more reminiscent of the model mother daughter relationship. She does so much to enhance the life of my three daughters, my husband, and I. I am not sure what we would do without her kindness, mothering, and love. This give away would be the perfect way to say thank you for all that she has done.
My interesting breakfast fact is that girls who eat breakfast are more likely to succeed in school and are less likely to be overweight.

I actually would nominate myself. I am an engaged mother of a 2 1/2 year old, and I am expecting now, Im 3 months now. I didnt have a Christmas this year because of financial problems, and dont have much family , so I could get son no toys, but God is still blessing me and I give him all the glory. I would have posted a video, but I do not have web cam or video recorder. So the toyrs r us gift card would help me so much. And a good breakfast to me is eggs, toast, and yogurt with berries and oj. And people who eat breakfast perform better in class, work, and in general, and empowers you!

What a blessing to come by! My nomination is for My family and I. As a mom of 5 I rarely have time to care for myself (doing my own hair, manicure, pedicure, etc.). It’s even more a challenge not to have support from extended family to receive any type of R&R. I give a lot of credit to my DH (dear husband) who makes every effort to do moreover what he’s entitled to do. I also, make it a priority to reach the youth in my community to empower self-worth and God’s Love. In addition, my children, o’ my lovely children, they would truly enjoy a Toys R’ Us shopping extravaganza. They bring me so much joy (and end of the day tiredness) and would love to have a day of their own. Thank you so much for the opportunity to win for my family and I.
I took the I <3 BKFST pledge!
My healthy breakfast tip: Oatmeal is a excellent choice for breakfast. The fiber will keep you full therefore, no over-eating throughout the day!
Happy Holidays!

What a wonderful contest!
I like to nominee all the “waiting” mothers out there (me included).
I mean those who want children but are on some level unable to get or stay pregnant or give birth to a living healthy baby or to adopt.
Their longing and their love for their children is as strong as is the love of the mothers who already have their budles of joy right in their arms.
They often suffer silently and alone. Being without child isn’t their choice, it’s what they have to face everyday. Especially difficukt ad sometimes painful in these days with friends and family asking “why you don’t have kids…”
And why breakfast is a good choice? If you choose healthy food (my fave is yoghurt w/cereals and some fruit) and create a nice sphere this can be the first moment of the day you can tell your body and soul that you love her 😉
Lauren
I liked them AND pledged and I would like to nominate my mom. she’s a wonderful woman who works really hard for her family, and she definitely doesn’t always have things easy…especially because she has a kidney disease and gets tired easily and has doctor appointments and meds to keep up on. she deserves to be pampered.
her breakfast tip is, most important, to always EAT breakfast but to also make it fun. find something new or switch things up. make it a meal you actually look forward too.
Green Afro Diva
I liked them and took the pledge. I was a lurker to this site but now I’m out and about, known in other circles as Green Afro Diva. I’d like to nominate myself. It’s not to sound arrogant or vain, but I feel like I have a pretty interesting life with some ups and downs, and some good life lessons learned. I’m not really going through any financial hardships or health issues for the moment. I have a 3 year old daughter whose very precocious, sweet, and energetic and I try to instill values and morals in her now. I am a vet of the US Army, work part time, in school with only a few classes before completing my degree, and am starting my own business. So, yeah, pretty interesting.
As for breakfast, I always eat and give my daughter fresh fruit and milk in the morning. I never let her miss breakfast in the morning even if she might be late for daycare. And I make it a point to sit down and eat with her.
Nicole Powers
I am going to nominate my mother Reverend Powers who holds down what I consider multiple full-time jobs. She has a job that enables her to help my grown sister with her kids, bills and any thing else that is needed. She is a full-time student currently pursuing her Masters and plans on getting her a PhD. She is also a preacher and reaches out to multiple children in the church so much that most of them call her mama. She is always willing to drop things and help others. She is the best!!!
Ferry C.
I have to nominate my mom, Marie R. Cadet. Seriously, we immigrated as family to the U.S in 2001 and my mother has been working nonstop as a nurse’s aide. She used to work everyday except Sunday (7am-11PM) so we could survive. Now, she works less but she still does the double shifts on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. On Wednesday,Friday, Saturday, she works 3-11PM. I honestly believe she deserves it because a day at the SPA would soothe her body. This gift would mean so much to her! I can see how tired she is when she comes home from work, especially as she is getting older.
Her breakfast advice definitely has to be plaintain porridge (Haitian recipe) because it’s healthy and can be made easily. It is really delicious.

I already did # 1- here we go with #2 :-)) I LOVE THIS POST FOR MOTHERS!!!

Aliya
I nominate my mother, Gloria Wadood. She is a 57 year old single mother who takes care of me and my 20 year old autistic brother, Jamal. Seeing the way she handled her divorce to my father with respect and class has made me aspire to be like her one day. She is currently financing my college education and working full time for the Board of Education in our city. She works hard each day and does it on her own. She had surgery on her knee (due to a fall years ago) the week before Thanksgiving and is still experiencing some pain. The spa gift certificate would be a great way for her to relax and unwind. The Toys R Us gift card would be greatly appreciated as well and would give her a way to find appropriate games that will challenge my brother’s cognitive skills. Please choose my family for the giveaway. God Bless 🙂
P.S.-My mom’s best breakfast tip is to eat oatmeal…Yuck! LOL.
G Jones
I did number one. I would nominate my sister Georgiana H. I am her name sake and she has been there for me through thick and thin. She is the mother of 3 young children and she is doing it on her own without complaining or wanting anything in return. It is a parent’s duty to do for their children but a truly special parent will go above and beyond to help all children and that is my sister. She has provided groceries, babysitting and clothing to people in need when she was low on things herself but knew she would be blessed in doing the right thing. Even though we are only a few years apart she has truly taken on the mother role when I have needed her from being there when I had a tumor removed to when I had my wisdom teeth pulled and she fed me soup even though I acted like a big baby!! Lol She has struggled but has always been blessed by keeping the faith and praying. Even if I don’t win this contest for my sister, it is just an honor to have a contest like this to let the world know that I have the best sister ever and I wouldn’t trade her for anything in the world!! Love you G!! Lastly, her best breakfast tip would be to “drink that milk, it makes you strong”!!

Great combination of Moms, breakfast AND Afrobella!

I nominate myself! I do a lot for my kids and family as a whole. I work full time and still find the time tI take my kids to tennis and ballet classes.
We make sure to eat a balanced breakfast every morning; cereal is a must for the fiber and vitamins along with eggs and a bread (waffles, toast, or bisquits), and a fruit/juice. Yum! We normally eat like this everyday but swapping it around for variety.
sheneequa carrington
I nominate myself. i got pregnant at 17. i had to finish high school having a newborn baby. i’m currently in college, have my own place, my own car, and i have a job and i’m doing it all by myself and i’m only 19. i don’t ever have time for myself because i’m busting my butt to provide a good and hopefully a better life for now and for the future of my daughter.i haven’t taken out time for myself but when i do i feel like i could be doing something else or i could be spending time with my daughter, so with that being said i haven’t gone anywhere without my daughter in 6 months (besides school, work and stuff). i also would use the toys-r-us card on my little girl to spoil her like she should be.
