Did you miss that post? Go leave a comment there if you want to win The Adventures of Mimi 2-DVD box set. I’ve got five to distribute. And it’s been a beautiful thing reminiscing with you about your favorite Mariah song, y’all got me digging in the mental crates. So commenter Tai mentioned “Vanishing,” which I hadn’t heard in FOREVER, then I got on the ol’ YouTube, and look what I found. Vintage curly haired Mariah, hitting those dog-whistle notes ever so effortlessly. She is a phenomenon.
I adore If It’s Over — you KNOW she was feeling those lyrics at the time, right? And Emotions is always a crowd pleaser. Oh, she is an American treasure, with her butterflies and diamonds and unnecessarily scandalous wardrobe. The giveaway closes tomorrow, so hurry up and leave a comment!

Hola, Bella!
I have a few Mariah gems that stop me in my tracks every time I hear them:
Can’t Let Go
Breakdown
Underneath the Stars
My ultimate favorite is her version “Jesus, O What a Wonderful Child” from her “Merry Christmas” CD. That song brings tears to my eyes no matter how many times I hear it, especially when Mariah takes it to church at the end.
Ta-ta for now,
Tameir 🙂

“Vanishing” is one i used to always belt out when no one was around. Sometimes those whistle notes irritated me and got too gimmicky but I love the way she uses them in Emotions! Another cut from her 2nd album, To be around you, is a favorite. What about “All In Your Mind” and “Alone in Love” which i both love.

Mariah is my favorite female artist of all time, and she has been since she first came on the scene in the early 90’s. Through thick and thin, Mariah is my girl. Even to this day, she can do things and say things that in my mind only she can do, and I think “that’s Mimi” 🙂 If someone else did some of those things, I’d be fussing, but when she does them it’s adorable. My favorite song of all time by her is the Fantasy Remix with O.D.B. Classic line “Me and Mariah go back like babies and pacifiers” LOL She also tears the frame out of my dad’s favorite Christmas song “O Holy Night”. I don’t cry easily, but when I play that at Christmas time, I can feel the emotion coming 🙂

My favorite Mariah songs would have to be One Sweet Day w/ Boy 2 Men, Thank God I found You the version w/ Joe and Nas and Breakdown with Bone, Thugs and Harmony. When I first heard Breakdown I thought it was amazing! Mimi is the best at rap-singing. She kept pace with Bone et al. Mariah may be simply ridiculous with her short skirts and Forever 21 wardrobe but hey she is truly an excellent singer so we tend to forgive her. And as mentioned before her Christmas CD always gets me in a festive mood.

I’m not entering the giveaway but I have to reminisce about my favorite Mariah songs:
Breakdown-Love the lyrics and the mid-tempo beat it’s kind of like you are really hurt but are trying to play like it’s ok to others
Forever-Sounds so old-fashioned like she should be singing it in a lounge
Stay the Night-When this comes on in the car, I sing like I’m on American Idol, lol!
Topaz
“Always be my baby” is the best Mariah song of all time!! When I’m in my car in the summertime and it comes on the radio, you can’t help but roll the windows down, turn the volume up, and sing along at the top of your lungs!
Simone
“When I Saw You w/Pavarotti” has to be one of the best live performances she has ever given, also another of my faves is “Music Box”, just classic Mariah, simple, and beautifully done.

My favorite song, “Breakdown” has helped me get over many a broken heart. And let’s not forget the fabulous job she did on the remake of Brenda K. Starr’s “I still Believe” Love you, Mariah.

I love “Can’t Let Go” and “Breakdown” featuring Bone Thugs & Harmony. It’s been up and down for me with Mariah. She’s got one of the best voices ever, yet her music has been pretty hit or miss for me. She’s a tremendous talent and I was happy to see her make a comeback with The Emancipation of Mimi.

Oooh girl!!! Play a Mariah track and sweep me down Memory Lane. Play “Vision of Love” and transport me to my high school Voice class where I belted this song out. “Anytime You Need a Friend” takes me to the memorial service of a dear friend who suddenly died of a brain tumor. Move on to “Dream Lover” and I’m whisked away to my college union, chillin’ with my friends just after finals. And even though I don’t typically like it when folks remake Prince songs, she did justice to “The Beautiful Ones” in spite of Sisqo (LOL). From the “Fantasy” remix with ODB, “My All”, “I Still Believe”, “The Roof” and more recent jams like “Say Sumthin” and “I Feel It”, Mariah has a gift of song and conveys emotion in such a beautiful way.
