I am seriously looking forward to having kids – just so I can share the magic of the Muppets with them. I think Jim Henson was a genius. I grew up loving The Muppet Show and Sesame Street to the point of obsession, so seeing that the Children’s Television Workshop is still continuing the great, innovative, inspiring work some 41 years later.
Several readers and friends on Twitter have sent me a link to this amazing, adorable song!
Shoutout to Your Natural Wonder for sending it to me first!
Love the brown muppet, the little fro, and the positive natural hair love. This reminds me of the glory days of Sesame Street, when Roosevelt Franklin was teaching about Africa and singing songs like The Skin I’m In. Empowering and beautiful!
The OTHER Sesame Street clip I’m loving is by my favorite muppet EVER – Mr. Fuzzy and Blue himself – GROVER.
Is there a cuter muppet than Grover? The answer is NO. No there isn’t. And now apparently no muppet smells better either.
The Smell Like a Monster Old Spice parody is genius! No wonder everyone’s been sharing it online! Love that Sesame Street remains witty and sharp all these years later. Can’t wait to share it with my kids (whenever I have them), and if you’ve got little ones – you’ve probably seen these already!

OMG, that’s SO cute!

It’s weird how much of an impression Sesame Street made on me as a kid, such that I watched the hair video with myself in mind, smiling because it represented ME! It wasn’t until a friend on Twitter mentioned the little brown girls who it could help did I think about sending it to sister and other fam w/little girls. The little brown girl inside needed to ingest it first.
And the other wonderful thing about this being on Sesame Street is that non-kinky-haired, non-black children watch it, and at an early age, are shown how great and versatile OUR hair can be, helping them to see that their hair is not the ultimate strive-for texture. All hair has it perks and can be beautiful!!
(told you i couldn’t wait to read your post! lol)

I saw this video yesterday also via Twitter and I loved it! Sooooo cute!
A+ for Sesame Street!

I’ve been raving about this “I love my hair!” clip for almost a week, since it last aired. Of COURSE I’d be able to find it here. 🙂

I have had a love for the muppets forever. My family knows that to see these little felt and furry fellas and fillies…singing and dancing and teaching, STILL makes me smile wide as if I were 5.
The Old Spice parody was CLASSIC! Loved it.
Nice post 🙂

Ok, here is another option for Sesame Street tees. At the Sesame Street.org stores the profits are used to support this wonderful PBS show. So maybe we can keep this show on the air for future generations (including yours, Afrobella)

Personally, I like the retro designs the best. I’m loving the Sunny Day shirt and the C is for Cookie shirt. I do a Cookie Monster voice for my 2 year old niece that she loves. I might have to get the toddler shirt for her.
Have a Sunny Day everybody ;D

This post reminds me of how much I want check out the Jim Henson exhibit at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. Thanks for the videos – they’ll help tide me over!

So freakin’cute! Hopefully my little nieces got a chance to see this! If not, I’m going to play it for them. Definitely brought a smile to my face, thinking back on days of sitting cross-legged on the floor in front of the TV with some chocolate milk LOL

I absolutely love Sesame Street! When I was little my mother purchased a tape with songs sung by Grover, Big Bird, Bert & Ernie, and the rest of the gang. I wore that tape out. When I had my son I searched high and low for a copy of that very same tape. I did find it and he listened to it as well. So, my experience with Sesame Street is definitely reflected in how I raised my son….
BTW, Sesame Street added an HIV+ character to the broadcast for the South African market to identify with the 300,000+ children living with the HIV virus. I applaud their efforts.
Thanks for sharing!!!

This is absolutely adorable. I’ve watched it three times and I can’t stop smiling. I need to forward this to my cousin so he can show his three little girls 🙂

I am a product of Sesame Street. I have vivid memories of sitting infront of the tv watching the gang. I didn’t realize it until I was an adult how much I learned from the show.

My daughter and I have been watching this for days, and I LOVE listening to her walking around the house singing “I love my hai-air, I love my hair!” They need to keep this character around!
MsMelissa!
Can I just say that Grover is my favorite Muppet too! I even nicknamed my best guy friend Grover.

I can’t say that this video makes me want to have natural hair or as a little girl keep natural hair. The song is ABSOLUTELY adorable but that puppet is … well DREADFUL. As an adult I can appreciate things for different reasons but I think there’s some little brown girl out there thinking “I don’t wanna look like that”. #ImJustSayin #MaybeItsMe ??
Gina
I Love Grover! Just had to say that.

it’s great! i loved sesame street back in the 70’s with roosevelt franklin and i go on youtube to play some of those clips. my mother-in-law (rip) used to call my hubby supergrover..and to this day i still call him that.

Loved it, Loved it, Loved it. it made me smile, i swear that is awesome, I feel we as african americans need to get back to that place where we are proud of who we are. before the drugs, war, and poverty. we are a proud nation that temporarily lost its way. this gives me reassurance that we will once again restore the strength and structure to our people.

yeah its just u. smh

Sent in an e-mail before I scrolled down far enough wondering if it was on here because I love it! I’m transitioning from relaxer and even though I enjoyed my hair then I love it now in it’s natural state! I got a perm waaaay to early as a kid, now I’m so happy I’m singing right along with this little muppet! I’m hoping to have kids and I’m just so happy I have the knowledge and appreciation for natural hair that my mother wasn’t able/allowed to have.

Just watched it with my husband and now reading the Yahoo AP story. Fascinating, I loved all her hairdos, and the story behind the song.
miko
Ty, god willing, it’s JUST YOU. (WTF???)
Gigi
…nice! And let’s not forget the classic Kermie the Frog song – “It’s not that easy bein’ green” 🙂
LaLasha
I wish the I love my hair skit had been around when I was growing up. It was so cute and really reaffirmed it is ok to like your hair natural.
Ardean
I never saw the Grover Old Spice parody -how cute!
And loving the natural muppet 😀

Sesame Street addicts should check out SONGS FROM THE STREET. It’s a 4 CD box set of songs from the 70s beginnings up through the 90s. It has my favourite old school Sesame Street tune on it “Pinball Number Count”, sung by the Pointer Sisters.
