Alright, full disclosure: I am a FOK (AKA a Friend of Karen’s). Karen Robinovitz is the creatrix of Purple Lab and she’s the kind of woman who is hyper-passionate about doing what she does, and doing it WELL. When she invited me to review her much buzzed about foundation – Purple Lab Silk Sheets – I knew I’d be in for a treat. Karen is a dynamo. She’s dedicated to quality and innovation. I came into this with high expectations, and emerged quite delighted.
The pros: Purple Lab Silk Sheets is makeup meant to work as skincare. It’s infused with silk, hyaluronic filling spheres, and goji – so it’s meant to disguise lines and wrinkles, allowing your skin to look as smooth and luxe and gorgeous as silk. It comes in gorgeous packaging (I’m such a sucker for a pretty package). It isn’t heavy or gloppy , and gave me light coverage – like a good tinted moisturizer. At $34 a package, it’s a good deal for those of us who are seeking the new, next hotness in skin coverage.
The cons: Silk Sheets comes in five shades – Fair, Light, Medium, Tan, and Dark. Dark matched me, and as you’ll see in the video – I layered it with Fashion Fair pressed powder in Kola.
In summary: I love the feel of Purple Lab Silk Sheets – its a foundation that works perfectly for me, and I definitely will be rocking this look this fall!
I meant to post this yesterday, but coming back to Chicago after four crazy days in Miami for Blogalicious made me unable to function. Apologies for the lack of postage! This week it’s back to your regular Afrobella =)

Hi Afrobella! I’d be interested to know how the Silk Sheets foundation wore throughout the rest of the day. Would it work for oily skin…or were you frequently having to touch up during the day? Have you tried it without setting it with powder? I find sometimes, that even with setting powder, I wind up looking like a grease ball, so I thought I’d ask as the only reviews on the website were from more mature ladies with dryer skin. Thanks!

Love that the Silk Sheets foundation worked for you. I must say I was pleasantly surprised because I’m a light brown skinned girl, and I have the same shade and it didn’t work for me at all. I didn’t think that their version of “dark” would work for anyone other than someone with Halle Berry’s complexion. It was way too ashy without enough warm golden tones. I seriously thought to myself, “What Black woman can use this?” Now I know. LOL. After I saw your review I decided to try it again. I still looked like Casper and I wasn’t very friendly. 🙂
