Carol’s Daughter has billed their latest products as The Ultimate Hair Detox. And now they are available to the public! The Rosemary Mint Purifying Duo are a shampoo and conditioner TKO. Work the shampoo deep into your roots and rub it on your scalp with the pads of your fingers — the rosemary extract will deliver antioxidants, the marine extracts impart hydration, and the peppermint oil gives a refreshing tingling sensation. The conditioner leaves the hair shiny and moist thanks to jojoba oil. The combination is $28.50.
Miss Jessie’s Super Sweetback Treatment is now available for sale (scroll up to see it on that link), and it promises to be “the essential treatment for growing out naturally curly, kinky, and wavy hair.” This super rich softening treatment is loaded with shea butter and centella extract, which is regarded as a growth stimulant. At 16 oz for $48 this isn’t a cheap product, but if you’re a fan of the Miss Jessie’s brand, this could be what you’re looking for.
Tropical Traditions Coconut Oil for Hair Treatment is a dense, unrefined coconut oil that can be used as a pre-shampoo treatment, an overnight hair indulgence, or as a supplement to conditioner, to add slip when detangling. How does this stuff differ from the kind of coconut oil you’d use for cooking in your kitchen? It doesn’t, really. It’s a bit thicker, and contains more coconut solids — which means more protein for your hair. A 16 oz jar costs $19.95.
Macadamia Natural Oil Healing Oil Treatment offers to your hair, what the macadamia nut offers to your body — nutrition and moisture. You only need a few drops of this oil for shine and weightless moisture. Macadamia Nut Oil also promises natural UV protection, so if you’re out in the sun a lot this could be the hair protection you’ve needed. A 4.2 oz bottle comes with a free wide tooth comb and costs $36.

Ooohh – the super sweetback sounds most intriguing especially since I’m in the transition phase of growing out my relaxer; it’s been 4 months now – woohoo!
As a chronically broke college student living in NYC (muy caro), I’m really interested in this coconut oil. It seems like a worthy investment. I’m currently trying out Palmer’s coconut oil on my hair, I must see how that works out. 🙂 Also, just the other day my friend and I (who is also natural) were working our way around the Carol’s Daughter site. I’ve only ever experienced the products from CD vicariously through an auntie of mine (and Sephora samples…), but I really do like them.
im curious about mj’s sweetback becuz i LOVE the rapid recovery! however…at $50 for the big jar and im sure the same $20 for a tiny 2 oz, i will have to wait for the bogo sale! also need to do more research becuz im not growing out anything since im in my 5th month of naturalness, lol.
I’ve sampled the Super Sweetback Treatment and it felt good and hydrating.
I must say that I have used several of CD’s body products (scrubs, body oil etc) and absolutely love them. I even keep a small bottle of tui oil on hand just for the small. However, I was seriously disappointed when I stopped by Sephora to sample a few of their products. Just as a reviewer said, many of the hair products (hair milk AND hair smoothie) smelled awful! I undertstand trying to keep the products as natural as possible, but I need my hair to smell good. I will be sticking with MJ!!! I know several pp are looking for a bargain, but I use so little product (due to the quality) until I think it balances out in the end. Thanks for the recommendations!

Bella, I would love to see more Aveda reviews in general to give your readers an even broader spectrum of products to choose from.
AfroLatina, I’ll work on some Aveda reviews – but in the past their products have left my hair too squeaky clean and frizzy. Yes their rosemary mint shampoo’s been around for a while, and Carol’s Daughter has also had their own variety for sale before. This is a reformulation and a relaunch.
I’m in the process of letting my relaxer grow out so this review is great. However, I would like to get my new growth pressed/straightened (like back in the day) throughout this process. I’m finding that my scalp is sore with all of this new growth. Bella and any of you other Bellanetts(made that up, can’t you tell..lol)your guidance is needed! Thanks in advance
I’ve had the worst luck with Carols Daughter products so I won’t be trying hers. I would LOVE to Try Miss Jessie products but they are always sooo expensive!! Great site btw!
People often talk about the price of MJ products, but you really don’t use that much. It smells great and it does just what my hair needs without it being too greesy. I have a short afro and use the curly buttercream as a daily mostorizer (with leave-in conditioner). My hair shines throughout the day and smells great. I am sticking with it until I find something better.
I hope Carol’s Daughter doesn’t do away with the original Rosemary Mint shampoo. I know many people complain that it leaves their hair feeling grimy, but for my natural hair, it leaves it feeling soft, defines my curls, and eliminates frizz.
I recently took a chance and ordered the Oyin Handmade sample pack. Haven’t received it yet, but I’ll take a chance and try miss jessies after I run out of Oyin.

Cdona, careful with straightening the natural hair – once it gets damaged with heat you will continue to have to straighten OR cut it all off. Its almost the same as having a perm (speaking from experience).
The MJ is tempting, but I know I shouldn’t, their ingredients are not that great normally. They have starting using mineral oil in the last 3 years and I am not a fan. I also am not a fan of Carol’s Daughter, again its the ingredients, and the fragrances are a little too strong for me.
@designdiva I think you will love Oyin. I use pretty much all her products, and they have been keeping my hair healthy this winter.
I would option for the Carol Daughter since I am already using her Black Vanilla shampoo, VB hair smoothie, and hair elixir. I’ve heard alot about Miss Jessie by visiting her website. I have been on my pursuit of natural hair journey for four months. I am scared and excited at the same time. I can’t tell you how excited I get when I meet someone with natural hair. I’m giving them the thumbs up and telling them their hair looks good. Natural hair is contagious!
Oil hair oil treatment is my favorite here. It guaranteed a good result on your hair.
I can’t stand carol daughter’s hair products they do NOTHING for my hair and the oil stinks on a hot day. MJ’s however works wonders for my twists, can’t use too much because it does getting sticky! I am curious about their new product but weary that it may alter my natural curl pattern.
I don’t think all these expensive brand name products are necessary. you can use Hesh’s amla and brahmi powders with essential oils to stregthen the hair. Giovanni’s deep moisture shampoos is all organic and cheaper. Please don’t get caught up in the brand name when there are cheaper natural alternatives.
In the beginning, I was using qhemet biologics for twistouts but now I use shea butter and almond oil. The only expensive product I go out of the way to buy is carol’s daughter black vanilla conditioner because all other braid spray conditioners contain harmful chemicals. Since I use it daily it goes fast and I find myself still using organic root stimulator olive oil spray occasionally.
