I certainly hope you all saw the BET Honors ‘10. If you didn’t, allow me to share this video with you. The legendary Kim Burrell SANG her HEART out to Whitney Houston. And Whitney, like everyone in the audience, felt the spirit.

Kim Burrell’s voice. WOW. So big, so magnificent, so undeniably a gift from the heavens.
I seriously found myself moved to tears, seeing Whitney moved to her feet, and her mother Cissy crying in the background, and those extemporized lyrics by Kim Burrell…it was an honor, just being able to watch that moment.
Neyo said it best in his introduction — Whitney Houston is a treasure whose voice has defined a generation.
She has been through her fair share of trials and tribulations, but you cannot deny her musical legacy. She has been in the industry for 30 years, and her debut album, 1985’s Whitney Houston, remains an eternal classic. My favorite Whitney song is The Greatest Love of All – it was the first video of hers that I saw in Nigeria (as part of a Coke commerical) and I was completely mesmerized by her voice. I became an instant fan and will remain a fan of hers for life.

My favorite song is “I Have Nothing”, all because when she sang her entire face off when she “sangs”: “Don’t make me cloooooo-ooooose one more doorrrr…” That song stirs my soul… I got to feeling some kinda way just thinking about it…

My favorite Whitney song is definitely “You Give Good Love”. It was the first time being introduced to Whitney at 8 years old. I remember singing that song into my little RCA tape recorder, thinkin I was jammin! Ha!

Saving All My Love For You.
Loved it from day one and have considered it my favorite song of anybody’s for the past 25 years.

‘I Didnt Know My Own Strength’. If ever a song gave us the truth it is this song Nobody could ever have sung this the way Whitney does and with each lyric you feel the ‘strength’ she now has.

I’m Your Baby Tonight. LOVE that song. The video really stuck with me as a child because it was so colorful and sparkly and there were different Whitneys with different dresses. And the melody was just awesome.

1 this was the first tape that I got that did not have a muppet/ cartoon on the cover. I felt grown! I was of course 6. I loved the entire CD but because my cousins and I would sing to anyfamily member that sat still for more than 5 minutes ” the greatest love of all” I will count that as my favorite. I think my 3rd grade class sang it too for something.

Saving All My Love for You is still my favorite. I was a teen then and knew the lyrics were about adulterous love, but I taught my toddler cousin the lyrics while driving around in my mama’s car. At 3 years old she could really belt that song. She’s 20-something now and we’re like sisters and I love to tell her how shocked our Granny was to hear her singing that song and how I got in big trouble for it. Good times!

My favorite Whitney Houston song is “You Give Good Love”. Whitney’s vocals are effortlessly pristine and powerful. Upon hearing the first “ooooooh”, Whitney had me hooked as an fan, and my admiration has not faltered since. I absolutely adore this song and decided years ago that it would be my wedding song. Now all I need is to find a husband, lol.
Nadine
I Will Always Love You frequently gets stuck in my head!
Naomi
Definitely “I Will Always Love You!” The song is powerful as is Mama Whit’s voice. It always makes me think of how above all else, God wants us to love…everyone. So powerful.
My shower walls have yet to forgive me for all the times I (thought) sang that song.

I’m Your Baby Tonight is definitely my favorite Whitney song!

I love ‘I Have Nothing’. This song shows you why she is known as simply “The Voice”. And the lyrics touch me everytime I hear it. She is simply the greatest.
Nicole
“You Give Good Love” is my favorite. It’s a beautiful love song.

All at once. It just touches me.

My favorite song is “I’m Your Baby Tonight” and I guess it’s because it was sung with such strength. I liked how ther were all these versions of Whitney

My favorite Whitney song is “I’m Your Baby Tonight.” Growing up, my dad used to play it almost every day and I loved it. But I have to say that no one else comes close to her National Anthem, so that’s also a fave of mine.
Carol
I Will Always Love You, I think of my husband.

My favorite song by Whitney Houston is “All The Man That I Need.” As she says in the chorus, this song definitely FILLS ME UP!
The tributes were absolutely fabulous and befitting such a world wonder!

Whitney’s cover of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” HAS to be one of the most formidable displays of vocal talent I have ever had the pleasure to experience.
I’ll never forget Whit’s introductory appearance in the 1980’s on The Merv Griffin Show back in the day. Even before that performance, I read an interview about this Whitney-girl who wanted to be a singer. I remember thinking, “Oh, here we go. A model who thinks she can sing.”
Little did I know. Over the years, Whitney Houston has amazed and inspired audiences with her undeniable talent and gifts. While Whitney’s versions of “Greatest Love of All” and “The Star-Spangled Banner” helped make her the musical icon she is, a hit movie soundtrack is where I found her spirit.
Flash forward to “The Bodyguard,” specifically “I Will Always Love You.” (Whitney’s mature voice could move mountains.) When I first heard that song, I held my breath because…in that moment, I encountered God.

“You Give Good Love” is my all time favorite. I remember being a little girl and holding this album cover in my hands while listening to the record. I didn’t really know what she was talking about but I felt really good listening to her sing.

My favorite Whitney song is “I Didnt Know My Own Strength”. I was mentally exhausted. I just wanted to transition to a better place. Someone sent me the song via email. I wasnt going to open but I felt I needed too. Suddenly, Whitney’s amazing voice was like an angel telling me I had everything I needed within me. No one knows this-but it saved my life. Later that day, I heard Ledisi’s song, “ALRIGHT”. So, Whitney and Ledisi are my sheroes. Even if I dont win this contest-I just wanted the world to know that music does impact lives. Which is why we need more uplifting lyrcis. Can somebody tell me why, Jamie Foxx won a grammy for “Blame it on the..”? Didnt Ludricious have a similiar song? Our community can do better than that crap. Whitney’s music will outlive them all!
sybil
easy! my favorite whitney houston song is i wanna dance with somebody, when we got the album (yes, an actual album LOL) my mom and i would dance around the living room in our little apartment and it’s one of the best childhood memories i have =)
Karine
There are many Whitney songs I love but my all time favourite is All the Man I need. I love power ballads and when the chorus picks up at that end with the choir, I always sing along.
Karine
Oh no, I missed the part about the contest only being opened to those in the US. I’m in Canada.
Sumthought
The Greatest Love of All! Surely I wasn’t the only one singing their 9 year old heart out in the bathroom mirror instead of doing whatever else I was supposed to be doing…LOL. I knew every nuance, every back gound verse, and even the instrumentation much to my mothers dismay. Ahhh memories! It would be a real treat to win the collection.
Rory
I’m Your Baby Tonight and I Will Always Love You had always been my favorite Whitney songs.
Now that I am struggling through my own problem right now. I Didn’t Know My Own Strength has become almost like a savior for me. I make sure to listen to it at least once a day. It’s like the lyrics are coming right from my heart but, out of Whitney’s mouth.

That album cover is my favorite picture of her…

My favorite Whitney Houston song is The Greatest Love Of All because it has always been a staple in remembering my own strength and the love that I have inside. I don’t even have to be listening to it-if I think about the words, it moves me to tears and fills me with joy and empowerment. Love it! (and many many more)
Swirlz
My favorite Whitney song is “The Greatest Love of All” because I remember listening to, and singing this song with my sisters growing up! Thanks for hosting this!
Angela
My favorite Whitney song is “I Have Nothing”. That song is classic Whitney; pure and beautiful.
Stacy
I will always love you….it was my junior year in high school and that song carried me through the break-up with my first “real love”. Oh many a night I sat in my room and pressed rewind so I listen to that song over and over. Oh, young, foolish love. LOL!!!
Shuggie
I have many favorites, but I feel closest to “All the Man I Need”. I love how it can kind of translate into either a religious song or a romantic song.
But mainly because I was in the audience when she was taping the video at Symphony Hall in Newark (Brick City rise up!). My stepfather (who used to be her cabdriver taking her home from church-this was before she was discovered) got tickets for the taping. My brother and I went, at 1st our seats were in the balcony, but we were able to move our selves down to the main floor for a better view. I couldn’t even stay until the end because we had to get up early the next day, but it was a long night – They were still going when we left and it was LATE. It was wonderful to hear her in person.

My favorite Whitney Houston song is “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me).” I’m an energetic person and whenever I hear this song…it puts in me an amazing mood. Seriously, I don’t think I’ve ever sat down when this song was played.
