My travels seem to never end, and I wind up going to some truly amazing places and participating in incredible events! Today I’m on my way to Philadelphia, one of my favorite cities for good food and culture! I’ll be on campus at University of Pennsylvania, participating in a prestigious academic symposium that I am honored to be part of.
Professor Anthea Butler’s symposium on The Politics of Black Women’s Hair is sure to be an incredible event. Melissa Harris-Perry will kick it all off with her words of wisdom, and the panel I’m part of begins tomorrow afternoon from 3:30 pm until 5 pm. If you’re in Philly and want to attend, click here for the information you need to register. Admission is free to the public. If you can’t make it in person, this revolution will be televised livestreamed so you can click here to watch it all live.
See you soon, Philly!

Yet another trip to academia – classes weren’t like this in my day! Congrats. Enjoy.

Is there a way to watch this now that it is no longer live? Was it recorded, and if so is it posted on YouTube?

I can’t wait for the day when a Black woman’s hair, especially when worn natural no longer needs to be dissected & studied. When it’ll just be the norm not to have to defend/define/exclaim/rationalize our hair choices & just be.
