Bellas, I am not a sports person. I’ve had to admit it to myself through the years. In fact when I was little, my tennis instructor straight up told my parents that “Patrice is more of an academic.”
He was so right. I did tennis lessons and I actually did a few golf lessons when I was like… 13, but I remember nothing. I guess it didn’t take because golf courses aren’t prepared for snow in the South, and I happened to start my golf lessons during the freak snow storms during my sophmore year. But I had the opportunity to refresh my memory and learn a few things yesterday, when I attended the Ryder Cup, thanks to my familia at Glam Media and the good folks of American Express, who sponsored the esteemed golf tournament. Here I am!
I had no idea what to wear to this historic sporting event – so I embraced the beauty of fall and went for an earth toned look. What did I wear to the Ryder Cup? Allow me to break it down!
Top – leopard tee, Forever 21 – super comfy, y’all know leopard is my neutral
Jeans – Lucky Jeans new plus size line, Ginger! They’re so comfortable. Love the fit and the rinse. They run a little long, so tall bellas will love these. Click to check em out.
Boots – my classic beat up Diesel combat boots, olive green – sold out, but similar to these.
All my jewelry came from Max and Chloe., and my nails are from China Glaze’s new Bohemian collection – that’s Unpredictable. Love these colors SO MUCH.
I kinda hoped that I’d fit in style wise but apparently not so much. Ryder Cup fashion is a lot about khakis and polo tees made out of breathable high tech fabrics. The more you know!
I attended the Ryder Cup on a practice day, with a group of fabulous women. From left to right, that’s me, Bianca, Factio Magazine, Fantabulously Frugal, Second City Style, and Skinny Runner.
And here we are at the fabulous PGA Learning Center presented by American Express, a golf-lovers dream where folks can come to learn more about the game and the history of the Ryder Cup, improve their own technique and other fun stuff like that.
I look so uncomfortable with a golf club in my hand. Going into the Ryder Cup experience I fully expected to be part of the 1% (of people of color in attendance, including one Tiger Woods). I was pleasantly surprised to see more diversity than expected! Including several dads with their kids, getting their golf swing on in the AmEx PGA Learning Center. Adorable.
I even had a chance to learn a few tips on golfing. Watch me SWING.
Doesn’t it almost look like I know what I’m doing? Almost?
Anyway. I had a fabulous time at the AMEX Hospitality Chalet, it overlooks the course’s 15th hole and it’s a lovely spot to convene over cocktails while watching golfers do what they do. And it’s open to all Cardmembers, so if you’re attending the Ryder Cup this weekend, flash your plastic and enjoy a taste of the high life.
Thanks to Glam and American Express for the experience! You can follow them @TheGlamNetwork and @AmericanExpress and check out the hashtags #GlamExRyder and #AmExRyderCup for more action over the weekend.
SO, did I do the Ryder Cup justice? Tell me your thoughts!

You looked good to me in your outfit and accessories.
As to golfing itself, you got some tips and tried it out.
All of you look as if you had fun.
So do we see you at a big Tennis Event next? Superbowl….. 🙂

Lovely. “Patrice is more of an academic.” I couldn’t help but chuckle in empathy.

I got that same speech when I took tennis lessons. Bella you look really good. Your clean eating is paying off!

Patrice, absolutely love the outfit! I love leopard too. Funny Jessica London calls the jacket color “Olive Moss.” Looks more of a caramel tone than olive in the pics, but whatever they call it, TOO CUTE! 🙂
Gabrielle
Patrice that outfit is awesome! I was perusing your sight while chatting with my mom on the phone and I had to stop and comment on it. It is very flattering and you totally did the Ryder Cup justice 🙂

Right now it looks like Movable Type is the preferred blogging platform available right now.
(from what I’ve read) Is that what you’re using on your blog?
