Blog Sister Love!

by afrobella

Every week I’m going to highlight my favorite posts from around the blogosphere, to keep you bellas up to date on what’s happening in hair, beauty, fashion and more!

Beauty

If you watched the Screen Actors Guild Awards last night, you may have seen some um, questionable red carpet looks. But there were some real red carpet winners, and Glee’s Amber Riley was among them! Blaq Vixen Beauty has the breakdown. Loved her bright pink Cover Girl lip! And whoever Amber’s stylist is, she KNOWS how to dress a full figured female! Hats off to her!

Fashion

I’m so so proud of my friend Charles Wade. An esteemed stylist who has put in GREAT work at Vibe and Honey magazine, he was sick of seeing tastemakers of the past complain about the lack of black fashion editors working today, without doing anything to encourage the next crop of up and coming black fashion influencers to come. Charles has taken the gloves off and gotten down to WORK. Charles started The New York Fashion Week Internship Placement Project, and has chosen ten lucky up and coming fashion industry employees to come to NYFW for this inaugural honor – those are the chosen few in the photo above! I’m going to meet them when I go to NYC next week and I’m SO excited. The NYFWIPP is seeking donations and assistance click here for details!

Hair

I’m working on a blog post in my mind about the natural hair craze, and this photo couldn’t have come along at a better time.

This is Tiffany “New York” Pollard. She’s rocking a natural look now – photo and info via NecoleBitchie.com! I think she looks amazing. Here’s hoping she likes the look and sticks with it. You don’t need a thousand dollar weave, 2 inches of makeup and cleavage up to your chin to be beautiful!

I’m still featuring beautiful natural women over at Essence.com, and my latest Natural Hair Diary is from a dear friend – Julia Coney of All About The Pretty. She’s so awesome!

Music

While catching up on the hottest gossip from one of my favorite blogs MissJia.com, I learned that B. Scott interviewed one of my all time hair icons, Ms. Chaka Khan! The interview was inspiring, cute, funny and salacious as only B. Scott serves it up. Love it!!

OMG, did you SEE the BET Celebration of Gospel last night? I have but five words for you. Whitney Houston and Kim Burrell.

WOW. Seriously, tears were in my eyes. Is Whitney officially BACK now? I hope so!

Happy Monday bellas!

Wow. I am loving Tiffany’s (a.k.a. New York) new look. I know I am bias because I am a natural girl but the fact remains she looks GREAT! As for this feature on your blog I am also truly a fan. I love knowing what other blogs are out there and of course the public show of love, encouragement, and praise. Keep it up!

Amber looked STUNNING! Her stylist is actually a guy, Mr. Bradshaw. I follow him on Twitter. hehe. But yea, he did a great job styling her. He also styled her for the Golden Globes.

Plus size Bellas please go to HauteLook.com right away. They are having a sale on Seven7 in our sizes. This is the first time since I joined the site that I’ve seen a sale that was truly for our sizes. I’m not getting any compensation for this. I just want HauteLook to be encouraged to have other sales on stylish clothes in our sizes. Maybe other designer discount sites will follow their lead. Please ignore and don’t be mad at the skinny models shown in the clothes. The size range is from 14-32! The sale is for jeans and a couple of pants. Jeans are $32 and the pants are $24-$28. I apologize that my comment doesn’t have anything to do with this thread, but I thought you all might be understanding.

New York has an amazing head of hair. To me it just emphasises the varied choices that we as Black women have. I am sure her reveal of natural hair is not just about embracing the hair on her scalp but showing she is not limited to one look.

Some folk relax their hair and wear weave on top which to me makes no sense. Whereas other as Tiffany has shown, keep a healthy head of hair underneath.

whatever suits her I am happy with. I hope overall her general happiness and confidence grows no matter how she wears her hair

Wow, Tiffany looks great!! I did not realize that was her. Yes, the natural beauty is what shines on her. It goes to show you that you do not have to wear a lot of makeup, hair weaves etc.,and boobies exposed to look and feel beautiful, yet sexy. You go girl!

Tiffany looks gorgeous. Looks like she really took care of natural hair underneath the weaves and wigs. This look will definitely make people take her seriously.
