On the 10th day of giveaways, Afrobella gave to me…10 General Mills I <3 BKFST Gift Baskets!

I usually kick off the morning with cereal – either cold or hot – and I do my best to include some fruit in the equation. It’s a baby step in the right direction. I’m pushing myself to make breakfast a regular part of my day.
Why?
Because when I establish a regular morning routine that includes breakfast, it charts a successful course for the rest of my day.
That’s my reason for loving breakfast. But enough about me, what about you?
Remember when I first blogged about the General Mills I <3 BKFST initiative, which supports the girls of Grace House, I mentioned having a truly INCREDIBLE giveaway in store? Well this is part of what I was talking about!

Done #1 and #2. A good breakfast, to me, means the nourishment we need to get our days started. A good breakfast sets the tone for the entire day. If we aren’t adequately sustained, we can’t do or be our best.
Sharontina Brightman (@TyrasLilSis)
Hi Afrobella!I just completed steps 1 and 2 and now I’d love to tell you what a good breakfast means to me!Breakfast is the first meal of the day, which already lets us know how important it is. It’s what gets us fueled for a new day of endless possibilities and can transform waking up on the wrong side of the bed, to something we look forward to everyday. A good breakfast to me can be found in various foods, but it’s always better when it’s a family affair. Cereal, cooked food, a quick breakfast snack bar, are all hearty meals when it is shared with a family who starts their day together on the right note. Breakfast and family have a direct correlation in my opinion, so any great breakfast is one shared with them.

Hi! I have completed steps 1 and 2 🙂 I started committing myself to eating breakfast everyday a year or two ago and it has made my quality of life so much better. Now I must HAVE breakfast to have a good day. It causes me not to binge eat throughout the day and wakes me up in the morning. It gives my morning a happy start and I have actually noticed a change in my weight since I started eating three meals a day. It doesnt have to be much. Oatmeal, bananas, turkey bacon, applesauce, and egg white omelets are some of my faves. I <3 Breakfast!!!

Good Morning Afrobella!
I have completed steps 1 & 2 in the midst of eating my hot cereal to get me AMPED up for today!
Starting my day off with breakfast is a must for me; it just starts my day off on the right foot. While sitting at my desk in the morning it gives me time to reflect and relax before I get started on task for that day. It’s my “ME TIME” and while I am doing what’s good for the mind I am also feeding my body the fuel it needs to get me started on the right path of weight loss.
mavis
Good morning. I have followed the required steps. I love your site. It is always a pleasure to see updates from Afrobella on my google reader and on Facebook. Keep up the good work.

I followed the steps. I love your site. Keep up the great work!

I have done both 1 and 2(my name on facebook is Leslie ‘Still Trying’ White)
A good breakfast is important because it starts your day off right without you really knowing. It gives you more energy, a full stomach helps you feel settled which helps with patience. It also gives you the motivation, stamina, and drive to achieve the goals you have planned for the day. A good nutritional breakfast makes you feel good knowing that you did something relatively simple to help your health, your body, and give you positive reinforcement. A simple step to a healthier life… thats a good breakfast.

Rule #1 – CHECK!
Rule #2 – CHECK!
Rule #3 – I just started working from home in June and got into some REALLY bad food habits in terms of going hours without eating and then wondering why I was exhausted or starving at the end of the day. I relocated in September and made the decision that the new atmosphere would also get new habits. The very first habit was to eat breakfast every morning. It has made a tremendous difference in my daily focus – hence, productivity. Then I started getting really creative with it. I had the standard staples of toast, boiled egg, cereal, etc. Then I found this amazing recipe for broiled grapefruit with brown sugar, ginger and cinnamon. I add a little turkey bacon to make sure I have protein. It feels so elegant that I started eating it on my mother’s china that I used to reserve for special occasions. So now breakfast means elegance and grace and I just can’t live without it! Needless to say, my productivity is thru the roof now!
Andrea Sanni
Good Morning :o) I’ve completed steps 1 and 2. A good breakfast means my husband will be able to go to work focused and not starving while snacking on chips all day, my one year old has yet another opprtunity to feed herself and make a mess (cute photo op, also), and it gives me energy for work and handle my toddler who wakes on full blast playtime mode at 7am EVERY MORNING. Thanks.
Cristine
I did both 1 & 2 & I linked it on my Tumblr, too b/c its just that important! Good Breakfast to me is something that keeps my tummy and my mind happy until lunch 🙂 but I haven’t always been a breakfast girl. I used to reserve it for special occasions with family [like Christmas or mornings before church]. Now, I use it to survive! Be it cereal or apple sauce during the week or eggs, sausage, and pancakes on the weekend – I try to have it every day!

Great morning to you!!!!! Task #’s 1 & 2 have been completed. A good breakfast is important to me because it is the fuel that starts my day off right after a great workout! It’s what my body needs to push thru the morning rush here at work.

Great morning to you!!!!! Task #’s 1 & 2 have been completed. A good breakfast is important to me because it is the fuel that starts my day off right after a great workout! It’s what my body needs to push thru the morning rush here at work and carries me on until my next fuel up at lunch time.

I did steps one an two!!
A good breakfast is the opportunity to set the tone for the day! If I have a good breakfast then my body can take on anything and my mind can take on EVERYTHING that comes along!
Lea
I completed steps 1 & 2.
A good breakfast means sitting down with my son in the morning and talking about the day ahead. I used to make him a hot breakfast and while he eats, I continue to get ready but now I eat too. He’s 7 so he thinks it’s cool. I know eating breakfast is beneficial in many other ways but I’m just glad I finally sat down at the table with him.
A good breakfast for me means a little more quality time with the family (my son)
AnnellaBella
I took the pledge, and you already know that I luuurve Afrobella! And now I have a cool pink/green desktop wallpaper! 🙂

Hi Afrobella,
I like a good country breakfast even though it makes me sleepy. To tone it down I keep the grits and eggs, but replace the sausage with turkey sausage. Yum!
Did all three things as requested! (Margaret Jeffcoat Rogers on FB).
Thanks for the giveaway!
AnnellaBella
And a good breakfast to me means a clear head, tons of energy, and controlled hunger pangs all day long. I make it easy by making a big batch of slow-cooker oatmeal at the beginning of the week and each morning I alternate the fresh and dried fruits I stir into it: bananas, raisins, blueberries, and apples. Yummy!

Rule #1 & 2 complete.
A good breakfast means starting my day off right because I am on a lower calorie lifestyle, and with trying to manage my weight, breakfast means I make sure my metabolism gets going for the rest of the day!

I did step 1 and 2. A good breakfast means that I won’t be snacking up unitl lunch. It means that I took the time to start my day right.
Ericka
Bella! I have completed rules 1 & 2 and for me a good breakfast is defined by my family and I enjoying warm and wholesome food together around the dinner table! It also means an energized day! With 3 kiddos I need that morning energy to last as long as possible. I wanted to take the I Heart Breakfast Pledge because too often I literally forget to eat breakfast..even when I have prepared my plate…after tending to the kids I forget that I have not eaten. 🙂

Rule #1 – Pledged and Commented!
Rule #2 – Been “liked” you and TRULY enjoy your posts!
Rule #3 – #1 + #2 + A good breakfast means energy and brain food for the day. I enjoy juicing and smoothies for a quick start. Freshly juiced apples are 1000% better than bottled apple juice. This morning I munched on Cranberry Nut trail mix – more of an on the go breaksfast.
On the weekends I am more likely to consume a fuller breakfast…steel cut oats, fried potatoes, yogurt w/ fruit, etc. Breakfast breaks the overnight fast and energizes my body!

I did both Rules #1 & #2. I have breakfast everyday, and it does make a difference in my whole day. I stay full and energized, just from the breakfast. I make sure my kids have a full breakfast each morning. They play sports too, so this helps a lot!
Thanks!

A good breakfast is a belly full of warm food made by my mama and sitting around the table with my sisters and being ready for school. That was years ago. Now that I’m a college girl a good breakfast is that warm bagel or english muffin or bowl of cereal that makes me slightly forget that I may be late for class, but at least I won’t be hungry. :]
Dionne
I am so in love with this campaign! Breakfast is so important to establishing and setting the tone for the rest of the day. I am glad to be aware of this project( via #1) and already am in love with (Afrobella #2)! Great cause!
Mel
I’ve now done all the steps! Like you, I’m not the best breakfast eater…but I pledge to do better! A good breakfast is something with fiber, to keep the hungries away; sweetness, to satisfy my early morning sugar craving; and fruit because I love it(and it’s a great source of color, texture, taste, vitamins, etc.) My favorite winter breakfast is a bowl of quinoa porridge(like cornmeal porridge, only not gross) with coconut milk, dates, sunflower seeds and agave syrup…a warm, nourishing, complete meal that keeps me going until lunchtime.

As a natural, I am more conscious of what I put in my body. Breakfast is essential for me to guarantee a productive day! I am a southern-gotta-have-grits-for-breakfast girl but I LOVE fruit so I usually have that with a small bowl of honey nut cheerios. Breakfast is awesome! I eat it at night too. :o)

Hi Afrobella,
I have completed steps 1 & 2 !
It’s simple to me, A Good Breakfast equals a Good Day !!
Breakfast is so good to me that I often have it for dinner too !
Priscilla
Hi! I completed steps 1 and 2!
To me, a good breakfast helps me start of the right foot and gets me through the day in a good mood. 🙂

I have completed steps 1 and 2. A good breakfast to me is ensuring my family is well fed and ready to take on the day ahead. I have 3 kids and ensuring they eat breakfast each morning will help them to stay sharp and focused. I like to attribute them doing well in school with making sure they eat their breakfast each morning. Breakfast truly is the most important meal of the day.

I did rule #1 and #2 —- having a good breakfast helps me concentrate and do a good job at work.

Hi Afrobella! I just did steps 1 and 2! I think its wonderful that you are helping others and discussing the benefits of a good breakfast. Every health magazine and web post always mentions how important a good/nutritous breakfast is to everyone. I love sharing a bowl of cold cereal and/or yogurt with my husband. We start the day right and happy that we got to spend time together.
BTW I love your hair!

I love the fact that I’m helping out Grace House. I did #1 & #2. Hope I win.
Breakfast means to me that I’m doing my body right. It also helps me to not snack as much through out the day.

I have completed rules 1 and 2. Growing up I never liked eating breakfast and I skipped breakfast for a long time until I found out the benefits of eating breakfast. Didnt realize at the time I was missing the most important meal of the day; no wonder I always had problems in the morning. Now that I eat breakfast in the morning and am making this pledge to help others have a good hearty breakfast I know that it benefits the body much and will definitely help these young ladies. Now that I eat breakfast I have clarity and focus in the mornings. Yaaay!!!
Tahmeka
I’ve done steps 1 and 2. Eating breakfast is essential for me. When I eat a good breakfast, I am sharper, less groggy in the afternoon, and I snack less. It’s also time in my busy day for me and my daughter to chat about whatever is on her 3 year old mind 🙂
Adria Johnson
I’ve completed both rules #1 and #2. Both breakfast and Afrobella are great! For me, a good breakfast means a good day. Breakfast is my time to reflects on the day’s challenges, enjoying something really tasty (and healthy), and allows me to be energized and refreshed! Besides, without breakfast, I’m Ms. Grumps LOL!
Lia
I have completed #1 and #2. Havinf a good breakfast sets the precedence for the rest of my day. By nourishing my body, Iam providing the fuel for flight–and I do so much in one day that I need my first meal of the day to be healthy, hearty, and enough to sustain me for all that I wish to accomplish!
Diane
I completed steps 1 and 2. A good breakfast means so much to me. I am trying to lose weight, and I know that when I start my day with a good breakfast I am less likely to overeat throughout the day. I also encourage my daughter to eat breakfast so that she can start her school day alert and energized.
Thank you.
Katrina
Done and done! A good breakfast means that I start my day off healthy and with fuel to concur all that comes my way.
Tanisha
Hi Afrobella! I completed rule #1 and #2. Eating a good breakfast for me is the most important meal of the day. Its literally my fuel because I have so much to do between working school, being a mom and a military wife, etc… I also work out and without breakfast I have no energy and have even gotten sick when I didn’t eat a healthy breakfast. So, its imperative to me that everyone strive to make breakfast a priority and start their busy day on the good foot 🙂
Reshae
I did rule #1 and #2. I am a nurse and I work 12 hour shifts. What that means is that I am literally on my feet for the majority of my work shift. (I wore a pedometer one day and was surprised at how many MILES I walk when I work!) On top of this, I work night shift. I’ve been working nights for a little over a year now, and initially it took some getting used to. My sleep pattern was off and as you can imagine, so was my diet. My ‘breakfast’ is at 5pm, ‘lunch’ at around 1am, and ‘dinner’ at 9am! Eating breakfast at normal people dinner time was a big adjustment, but I have noticed that eating a breakfast with a good amount of fiber, a protein, and fruit really helps give me that burst of energy that we nurses need to do our jobs! I am a firm believer in breakfast and will advocate for it anyday! I <3 Breakfast!

Hola! I’ve completed steps 1 and 2.
A good breakfast to me really helps get my day started. After fasting all night, it’s that 1st boast of energy needed to wake my body up and get the day started. I used to skip breakfast altogether or opt for fast sugary treats (ahh youth). Now that I’m a little older and hopefully wiser I understand the importance of not only eating breakfast but making sure it’s healthy. I definitely notice a difference in my mood and energy levels when I have a good healthy breakfast, as it can really set the tone for the day with me. So to me, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Denise
Hi AfroBella- Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the opportunity to participate in this campaign and giveaway. I had done #2 way long ago:), but just did #1. And as for #3, if I don’t eat breakfast, i will not have a good day. I totally can tell the difference between eating breakfast in the morning and not, now that I’m an adult. My energy and my clarity of mind is really affected when I do not eat breakfast and that will carry on throughout the entire day.
Usually, I have cold cereal, but in the winter I will also add something warm like oatmeal to the mix. On the rare occasion that I do not get a chance to eat breakfast, I am NOT a happy camper. So, I know if I feel this way, I am sure others must as well and that is not good. That is why I think it’s awesome for General Mills to have this I <3 BKFST campaign and support Grace House. Young girls (and all children) need to have "fuel" in the morning to get their engines revved for the day, just like adults!
Court
Hey! I’m a newcomer to your site and I really enjoy your articles. I did rules # 1 & 2. I find it amazing what the Grace House has been doing and I am surprised that I’ve never learned about their efforts before today.
I believe breakfast is important because without it I’m not really myself during the day. I’m sluggish, tired and grumpy. Not to mention hungry! Breakfast stimulates me whether that’s in the classroom, at home or at work. It gets my mind going, my stomach full, and my mind and body feeling energized. Without it I am physically weak, seriously. I have low blood pressure and if I skip meals I am likely to faint so it’s very important for me to eat each meal throughout the day. Plus, the Nutrition major in me tries to make sure every meal I eat is nutritious and includes almost every food group. I’m a big juice, cold cereal, and bagel fan in the mornings 🙂
destiny
Afrobella!!!
I completed steps 1 and 2!
A good breakfast is important to me because I’ve learned that your metabolism increases if you eat a well-balanced breakfast in the morning. That can help with fat burning throughout the day. Also, it helps with mental stamina!
I make sure that I eat oatmeal (low or NO sugar) with a piece of fruit and either 1 part to four parts of diluted cranberry juice OR water (or low or no sugar cereal with skim milk). This diluted/no juice habit just started since I was a glass of orange juice a day drinker up until recently. I learned that such a concentrated sugar amount (everyday) can put you at risk for diabetes! And, it runs in my family.
That said, a healthy breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
Lisa
Hey Afrobella!
I completed steps 1 and 2!
What does a good breakfast mean to me? A lot. It is the best way to start the day, regardless of what time your day starts!
For example:
A few years ago I had a job working the early morning shift of 5am to 1pm. I had to go to bed at 7:30pm, to wake up at 1:45am in order to get ready and leave for work around 2:45am to be on time at 5am.
To me, waking up at 1:45am wasn’t a good time to eat breakfast. I prefered to eat during my break time at 9am.
I would just take sip of something and go out the door.
Well in conclusion, after passing out and having to take the rest of the week off, from that point on, Breakfast comes first! Whether it’s tea and cereal with a banana or tea and juice with scammbled eggs, turkey bacon & fruit.
Viva La Breakfast!!!

Oops – forgot my breakfast comment. And do you know why?!? Because I rushed out of the house this morning without a good breakfast. I know I think clearer and have more energy when I have a good breakfast. Need to make sure that even when I’m having “one of those days” I need to make breakfast a priority.
Kbrimm
I took the pledge and of course like you on facebook! A good breakfast means a good day to me! If I dont eat breakfast in the morning then I encourage everyone to stay out of my way! I will not be a pleasant person. It also means that I will more than likely stay on track to eat better throughout the day since I started the day off that way. 🙂
LaToya S.
I’ve completed #1 and #2.
Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day, so it means a lot to me. First, it means that I’m getting my day off to a healthy start. Second, it means that I’m making time to do something good for myself. Finally, a good breakfast means that I will be in a good mood and have the energy to tackle the day that lies ahead!

Hey afrobella!
I completed steps 1 and 2!
What does a good breakfast mean to me? A good breakfast leaves you semi-full. It is light, healthy and it sets you off for the rest of your day
Henley
I did rule 1 and 2.
A good breakfast is a nice light meal that fills me up and contains all the nutrients and fiber I need to start my day.
Michelle
Rules #1 and #2 completed. What does a good breakfast mean to me? As a person who DID NOT eat breakfast on a regular basis for various reasons, I definitely can SEE and FEEL the difference now that I am trying to make sure I have breakfast everyday. I am a work in progress plain and simple. I make an attempt everyday to have breakfast no matter what but sometimes have made bad choices due to rushing to get off to work. I have been a long time fan of many General Mills cereals and not just for breakfast. Missing breakfast means a day of being in a mental fog, irritability, no energy and bad choices in what I eat for lunch and/or the rest of the day. I find when I do eat breakfast I am HAPPIER and more productive and tend to make HEALTHIER choices with meals and more MOTIVATED to exercise. Wish General Mills had a Breakfast Vending Machine:)
Andrea Morgan
Hey!! Thanks for this opportunity. Your website is so helpful and informative. Rules #1 and #2 have been completed 🙂
Breakfast fuels the day and when i skip it there is a definitely difference in how I perform.

Rules #1 and #2 completed. To me a good breakfast is one that is hearty and healthy. It gets your metabolism a boost in the mornings and provides you with the energy to accomplish the many tasks we have each day. I have found that eating a healthy and wholesome breakfast also sets the tone for making wiser food choices throughout my day. A good breakfast is something I look forward to at the start of every day!

A good breakfast is important to me because it sets the tone for the remainder of my day. I feel it is the most important meal of the day. My day runs smoother with a good and healthy breakfast to start off to. I also enjoy breakfast because of the time I spend with my 23 month old daughter. She loves oatmeal, as do I. I <3 BREAKFAST!!!!!!!!!!
JANICE NELSON
I have completed rules 1 and 2. I pledge to not only eat a healthier breakfast but to eat breakfast and not brunch period. I suffered a heart attack this weekend and while I always knew the importance of heart healthy breakfast/foods..it has become a true reality for me.

I’ve pledged and you were already my friend on Facebook. I love breakfast (especially cereal) and I’m glad I can support what you’re doing. Thanks Afrobella!

Greetings!
I visited the I <3 BKFST page on Facebook and posted the message “I <3 BKFST and I <3 Afrobella!” (which is true since breakfast is my favorite meal and Afrobella has given me some wonderful information for me and my daughters' hair). I also took the BKFST pledge to support the girls of Grace House and I have been a friend of Afrobella on FB for a while now.
Having a good breakfast means that not only will I have energy and a productive positive day but that my daughters will have one as well. Growing up with my grandmas I was taught early on that eating healthy affects everything from my physical to my mental and spiritual health. We always started the day with a good balanced breakfast. I make sure that daughters have the same benefits I had growing up and I make sure that I do the same for me (if mommy isn't healthy and happy that throws everything off).
I remember substitute teaching elementary school right after college and having little kindergarteners tell me they were hungry early in the day because they didn't have breakfast. It broke my heart knowing they had to try to learn and focus on an empty stomache.
I commend you for supporting this cause and for reminding me how much work is needed so that all our children can be healthy and happy.
Many blessings and happy holidays!
Dawn
Praying for you Janice Nelson. May you have a quick and full recovery. Be well!
Carmen

Regardless of the promotion attached to the pledge, I would have done it anyway…I think it’s awesome what General Mills is doing…no child or adult should have to go without food and since breakfast is the most important meal of the day…I support this 100% and have passed the word on to others….If I am a lucky winner I have already decided to give my box to one of the less fortunate families that my family has adopted.

A healthy breakfast should contain some protein and some fiber. Protein can come from low fat meats, eggs, beans or dairy. Fiber can be found in whole grains, vegetables and fruits. A good example of a healthy breakfast might be something simple like a hard boiled egg, an orange, and a bowl of whole grain cereal with low fat milk.
Thanks for the chance!
Nicole
