Etta James may have had a cherubic face — but listen to that voice. And check out that cat’s eye. Etta was BAD and letting us know in her own inimitable way.
Drink that in, cause they don’t make it like that anymore.
I first featured that video in a Throwback Thursday in 2008, all about the amazing Etta. And she remains one of my all time beauty icons, just because of her swinging sixties style. The cat’s eye hasn’t gone anywhere in the past fifty years, and my quest to master the look continues unabated!
For tips on creating the perfect cat’s eye, check out this Bellasugar post on Beyonce’s Why Don’t You Love Me makeup, which is awesomely retro. LOVE Bey’s makeup in that video!
For a cat’s eye like that, liquid liner is best. But if you’re like me and can’t get a straight liquid liner line to save your life, then you need Milani Cosmetics new eye makeup magic in your life. The Eye Tech Liquid Liner is awesome and amazing. Basically it’s like a teeny magic marker of liquid eyeliner. You shake it just like you would a magic marker. The size of the eyeliner pen is perfect for those of us with shaky hands (like me!), and the felt tip just glides smoothly without being too hard or painful to the delicate eye area. It has great pigmentation. AND it costs Milani prices, so check your local drugstore. I guarantee this won’t be more than $7.
Check out Musings of a Muse for a much more detailed breakdown of the Milani eye tech. I’m about to go get my Etta James on!
