Ten days ago, I hosted a giveaway of hair jewelry by Ododo Designs, purveyor of handcrafted beaded hair flora.
The designer, Lesley, came up with a really cool idea for the giveaway. She wanted me to ask you bellas, what makes you an original? The 29 responses we got were so interesting and diverse, it was hard to choose a winner! Thankfully that was not my responsibility — Lesley from Ododo chose the winners, and here you see a photograph of her with a different hairstyle. She addressed giveaway winners, and answered the hair questions a few of you asked. Take it away, Lesley!
“My top three for the win are CurlyChronicles, UnalteredBeauty, and Tayari.
This was such a hard decision as there were so many poignant, honest entries that touched me. I especially loved T.T., Sumatra and Boba as honorable mentions who entries I enjoyed. In fact I liked way too many of these entries to be practical. I wish I could have given a flower to every response that caught my eye.
Thanks to everyone who entered. Also, thank your readers for all the lovely words regarding my hair. I saw that someone guessed that they were tiny twists that must have taken 15 hours…well she’s right on (almost) both counts. These are indeed tiny twists and they took about 12 hrs to do. The twists are about 2.5 months old in this picture. I don’t really have any special method for doing these, I just start with fully detangled hair (very important), and part and twist with my fingers, no comb. To keep them looking fresh, I co-wash and use a dollop of conditioner and Castor oil as a leave-in.
Sales have picked up a bit and I’ve had several inquiries, so thank you and thank your readers. They’re a fabulous bunch!”
So CurlyChronicles, UnalteredBeauty, and Tayari — congratulations! And expect to hear from me within a day or so for your mailing addresses. And the rest of you, thanks so much for your thoughtful entries. I’m trying to line up another giveaway this week, so stay hopeful and keep entering!
If you didn’t win one of Ododo’s Originals – click here to treat yourself. They range from $16 to $25, and are lovely and unique, just like you!
I’ll be back later today with a big, wonderful beauty products post to kick off a week of beautiful things, bellas. Monday just caught up with me, so I gotta go for now.
Happy Monday!

I’m curious-how long does it take to unravel the twists and do you end up with a lot of knots? If I leave in twist that are triple that size, they are hard to take out and I end up with a lot of kinky dots at the end…
Curlychronicles
YAY!! 🙂 Sooo happy and honored to wear a pretty adornment made by a fellow natural bella!
Thank you sooo very much 🙂
Can’t wait to wear it!
Congrats to the other winners 🙂

First of all, congratulations to all the winners and a special thanks to Afrobella for hosting the contest and to all the lovely ladies that entered.
Ladene asked:
“i love her hair! i wonder how she keeps it from getting frizzy. i also do twists, but by day 3 they are frizzy beyond recognition.”
Thanks Ladene! I believe the key for me is that the twists are so small, that they take on the natural, springy texture of my hair. This means that I can keep them in for a long time without them getting messy because the twist follows the curve of my kinks. I hope that makes sense lol. I also try to twist as tightly as possible and that helps with the frizz also.

La,
It takes eons lol. About 3.5-4 hours if I just sit down and undo them. As for knots I’ve been fortunate. If I take the twits down with two months I can escape major knottage. Minor knots are inevitable, but Castor oil and a safety pin are your best friends. Any longer than 2.5 months and it has the potential to get pretty nightmarish.
I hope this addresses any concerns, and I can’t wait for the winners to enjoy their spoil!

Yay! Thanks Ododo and Afrobella! I got quite a lot of good hair advice from the original post about hair ornaments. And I did achieve a very cute updo from Ododo’s inspirational pictures! And now I know that once I have the patience to do the tiny twists, I can actually keep them in for 2 months! I am psyched!

I have been browsing online greater than 3 hours lately, but I never found any interesting article like yours. It’s beautiful worth enough for me. Personally, if all web owners and bloggers made just right content material as you probably did, the net will probably be a lot more useful than ever before.
