RIP, Bernie Mac

by afrobella

Y’all, I can’t even write right now. Tears are just rolling down my face. I just read this and that was enough. I heard he was sick, but…. man. This makes me want to call my parents and tell them how much I love them. In fact, that’s what I’m gonna do right now.

Mr. Mac, you made so many people laugh in your too-brief lifetime. Saying you’ll be missed is an understatement.

** edited at 7 p.m. — The passing of Bernie Mac is tragic, but bless his talent — watching his video clips on YouTube has cheered me up immensely on this sad day. Bernie Mac trafficked in delightfully dirty humor, so if you’re averse to foul language, you’ve been warned.

— Bernie talks about My Sister’s Kids, the joke upon which his series was built.

— Bernie on Def Comedy Jam. “Y’all don’t understand. I ain’t scaaaaared of you mother%&*$ers.” Hilarious!

— Bernie’s second Def Comedy Jam appearance.

— From the Original Kings of Comedy. Nuff said.

And finally, this Tavis Smiey interview that says it all about the man behind the jokes. Love, family, laughter. That’s what Bernie Mac was all about.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgfhKOZZZww

Celebrity friends have been offering tributes to E Online, and People Magazine featured a touching interview with Mac’s sister in law. Bernie Mac and his wife Rhonda were married for 30 years, and they have a daughter, Je’Niece. My deepest sympathies go out to the Mac family. One more link and I’ll stop — I just saw adorable photos of Bernie Mac’s granddaughter and teared up all over again. Aw, man. This is a sad day.

** 9:40 p.m. — Bernie Mac’s IMDB page is taking me down memory lane. The man did some diverse work, from Mo Money and How to Be a Player to Ocean’s Eleven and Transformers. What was your favorite Bernie Mac movie? I’m torn between Bad Santa and The Player’s Club.

    Oh I’m with you Bella.
I signed onto my computer and saw that article this morning.
I just screamed and started crying. I felt as if I knew Bernie Mac.
He brought so much joy and laughter to many people. Even my mom liked him and she doesn’t like anyone!
    He will be sorely missed.
    RIP

What a loss…I’m taken aback. I got the news from a text message, and as I’d already gotten this message before and proved it wrong, I paid it no mind. What a shame that it now holds truth.

    RIP Bernie

Damn! Damn! Damn! I just heard on the radio yesterday that Mac was on the mend, and now he’s gone. This dude was truly funny. He made The Kings of Comedy the success that it was. Man, life is short, and tomorrow is never guaranteed. Tell those you hold dear how much you love them. Heaven is a much funnier place now. RIP, B-Mac. I aint scared of you m*therf*ckers!

I know, how you all feel. I feel as if I lost a family member. He died from pneumonia on Saturday…he didn’t die from the disease that he had. This is so sad, i can’t even believe it. He was such a lively man.

A part of me once to watch Life and hear him say “Jaggalang, Jaggalang” and then another part of me once to go cry…I’m torn.

What a talent! What a loss! He certainly was funny and had a great smile and just a great way about himself. He was so terribly young too. You always expect people like that to get better and beat the odds. Life indeed is short, but as one of his friends said, he lived life to his fullest, a lesson we could all learn from.
    RIP, MAC.

Bernie is the Man. He’ll always be the Man.

I’m glad he achieved some of what he deserved while he was on earth.

Okay, I’m in shock! I knew he was sick but I didn’t know that he in that bad of a condition. I will truly miss him. For me, he stole Kings of Comedy. My prayers go out to his family.

I still can’t believe it. Like everyone else, I read/heard that he was responding to treatment and thought he would be ok. He was such a talent. I love his “milk and cookies” bit. May you rest in peace, Bernie.

Def Comedy Jam (W/ Martin Lawrence as the “Original” host), was where I first saw Bernie….and laughed my a*s*s off! I’ve loved him ever since!

It’s been a rough day. RIP Brother, you were one of the best.

awww, Bernie, you will be truly missed. I love your show, it is so REAL. I will miss your smile, your clothes *the man could dress his butt off*, and your down-to-earthness. My prayers are with your family. Be easy, man. (Can you imagine the laughter in heaven with Bernie, George Carlin, Richard Pryor and Estelle Getty??!!!)

    RIP, Bernie.

I too feel like I have lost a family member.

    My condolences to his family.

Although they have repeatedly stated that his death was not related to the sarcoidosis, I still wonder. If he did not have sarcoidosis would he have been sick in the first place? Would he have recovered if he did not have sarcoidosis?

My sister-in-law has sarcoidosis and it’s affecting her lungs tremendously. So much so, she considered getting a lung transplant. Hopefully, this will bring more awareness to this disease that’s affecting our community.

Okay – to answer your question. I will have to say my favorite Bernie Mac “experience” was The Kings of Comedy – hands down!

Thank you for the laughs Mr. Mac. I remember Bernie Mac performing at my alma mater back during the Def Jam Comedy days. He was the best act that night. He will truly be missed. But I can hear, “I ain’t scared of you…” you all know the rest.

I was driving and listening to the radio and heard the radio personality ask folks to call in with their best memories of Bernie Mac. If I was not listening to that channel this morning, I would not have known that he passed. I wanted to pull off the road and ball. It felt like I had lost a friend even though I did not know him personally. Aside from seeing him live at the Kings of Comedy in Greensboro, NC, I know Bernie Mac best for his Def Jam performances. Anyone who makes you laugh does something for you soul and heart and I guess that is why this is a blow to me. He will definitely be missed by me and many others.

I was just watching Transformers on HBO earlier and he had a funny scene of course. Was the Obama fundraiser his last gig? If so that’s a shame.

How sad when I got home and read the story. My heart to his family and friends and fans.

Fav Bernie Mac movie, with much shame

    Players Club and Bad Santa.

    Hello there! {waves}

It is so very sad that Bernie passed on… a young man who was still attempting to branch out into new avenues professionally… he will be deeply missed….

He added a lot to the comedy circuit and many comics who came after him were imitators…

I do hope that he is resting with God…

Thank you for mentioning him with respect and admiration…

    Peace, blessings and DUNAMIS!

    misstwists,
My mom had it. Yes, Sarcoid is the reason he died. It was the secondary cause of death. Sarcoid lowers your immune system. With this disease, a cold can kill you. I can’t say if he could have recovered because I don’t know how bad sarcoid and pneumonia it was. He was sick for awhile. I am guessing at least a month.

Let his life be an inspiration for all of those who are afraid to go out into the world and actually dedicate their lives to doing something that they love. He lived 50 yeas on this earth and look at all that he accomplished and all the lives that he touched during such a short time.

Our prayers go to his family at this time. He hasn’t passed away, he’s gone Home and I know that his mother welcomed him with open arms.

I was very shocked to wake up and look at my computer screen on Saturday morning. Reading the headlines on the passing of Bernie Mac.
I remember the first time I saw him down in Miami. This young comedian came out to open for Bernie, and he wasn’t very funny, the crowd BOO’d him off the stage. Well 10 minutes later Bernie Mac made the young comedian get back out there, that time the crowd laughed softly. When Bernie Mac came out for his performance he said “Miami y’all some nasty mutha!#*!”
I laughed so hard, even though he was telling the crowd off.

What a great lost….May God bless the heart of his family and give them strength, as only he can do.

when i was 10 years old my mother and i were watching the academy awards when i suddenly blurted out, “I’m gonna win one of those!”
My mother jerked her head around and gave me this look like i had just let out the stinkiest foulest fart known to man! Like there were slimey brown vapors oozing from my pants and clouding up around my head.
    then she said, “Yeah, right.”

i went ahead and pursued my dream of acting, but it took me a long time to believe in myself.

this video made me cry, and i cry everytime i see someone with mothers who love them more than life itself. if you have that kind of mother, call her now and tell her how much you love her. to have that missing in your life leaves a hole nothing can fill.
    RIP Bernie.
