I honestly think she was pressured into coming out. Of course cheating should be frowned upon. However to think there is no cheating in track and field and other sports is ob sured. In track and field there is only one winner so everybody wants an edge so therefore when they inject or are pressured into doping so to speak they are only creating a level playing field this was true in the past, present and in the future. The only thing that we did was weaken the United States by exposing one of our greatest to the world as a lying cheat. When she was caught they should have had her quietly resign as oppose to humiliating this country and one of our great women athletic icons. This is ridiculous on so many levels to have her serve 1 day in jail over lying about steroids is retarded. While I was in college I had a choice take steroids or not, I chose not to that was my individual decision people!!!!! I know it takes more than the best training to be number one, and I go on the record to say that even if she had taken no performance enhancements I believe she still would have been a champion, she had all of the tools to win in her natural ability but you know the person next to you in a professional competition has an edge you so you either get in the game or watch from the stands and just enjoy being a spectator. Now we are in Beijing getting clowned while everybody else is looking pretty how embarrassing. And of course the will always say we are clean athletes, however in the inner circle of track and field on a for real note performance enhancements are just looked at as vitamins. So to conclude this blog don't be naive people, they should not even put her on blast because all people know how to do is be judgmental when they have no idea what is really going on. Check fraud should be her only conviction not the use of any kind of performance enhancements. Parent also teach you own kids to make good decisions so athletes, actors and public figures aren't held accountable for teaching your kids wrong from right after all they are only people they put their pants on one leg at a time.

Shame...she lied and she cheated. She cheated and she lied...she got what she deserves...only a selfish person would cheat and then lie about it. She was selfish...what else could it have been? Fear of losing?...how about trying your best, that's the message that kids should be getting, not cheat, lie and try not to get caught. For me it's not a white or black thing as some people are stating...anyone who does this should feel the see the the consequences of their bad judgement and behavior. This is about setting a positive example and sending a positive message to the children. I don't want my kids to gow up thinking that it's okay to lie and cheat and that people should feel sorry for them when they get caught. I could teach my kids about integrity, team work, give them everything they need to be good and humble in life, but as soon as they leave my side and my sight they will still have to deal with problems like these. It just doesn't help that someone viewed as a role model can do something as morally wong as this and thought nothing of at until she got caught. I don't know if it was her concious that told her to finally tell the truth, but I'm gald she did. It's just a shame that she couldn't have just tried her best and been be honest in the first place.

When we have a president in office that should be clearly tried for treason and a huge host of other crimes Marion Jones going to prison over something like steroid use is the least of my concerns.

Are we really supposed to support criminal behavior? There are consequences for illegal behavior. They didn't sentence her to death - 6 months is all for the lying and the check fraud. There are multiple crimes involved here.
I love my Black people, but I love my Black people enough to tell them when they are dead wrong too. I just can't endorse that behavior and still be proud of my people.

I'm sorry guys, but I feel like this woman has suffered enough. This is a witch hunt pure and simple, just like with Michael Vick. Once you involve white people who have a self righteous anger about what black people are doing you get this.
I think what's wrong with the black race is that we don't support each other, white people do which is why most white or non black athletes only get slaps on the wrist for behavior like this. Jose Conseco stated that he DID injections with Tobey Maguire and nothing happened to him, and we're all ok with that because ....he's white, and lets face it they rule the world while we're just "Tobeys,Bells, and Kizzys"

This is a particularly cautionary tale--guilt aside, what has happened to Marion Jones shows that she was never an American icon in the way that even Tiger Woods or the Williams sisters are, for black or other people. But at the time she was a photogenic black woman who won a lot of medals; how could she not receive endorsements, etc.? On what stated grounds would you look past her? But Jones never enjoyed the kind of mainstream popularity heaped upon--steroids aside--lesser athletes, so when it became apparent that she'd actually transgressed retribution was swift and harsh. I can't recall any other public figure so thoroughly disgraced and cast out--America loves a comeback but particularly if the person is white. But then again, we also love to imprison our fellow citizens.

China getting the Olympics, is seen by many as a huge fraud due the way the Chinese government has a way of muzzle-ing folks who speak openly about the Chinese government itself. It's talked about on the regular as a country that openly violates the human rights of its citizens. The country lacks the 'democracy' of America. I say that with huge sarcasm because I feel our current "leader" is one the biggests thugs walking....and all he ever screams is that whatever he does (Iraq, Saddam, sanctions on various countries), it's all for the betterment of the American society.

Marion can kick rocks. White or black. Deosn't matter. Check fraud is check fraud. It just so happens she got some medals that made her light shine a little brighter to the authorities. White folks and black folks get time every damn day for check kiting. She got what the judge said was needed and unless she is doing Fed time, she may get out sooner than the six monthes she was given due to good behavior.

As far as the doping was concerned, she probably feels 600% better without that monkey on her back any longer. As a grown woman she had to know consequences if she got caught....she womaned up and told the truth. She f***ed up, but she knew what could happen.

One minute of jail is too much for me, let alone 6 months, so I say she didn't have anything to lose by asking for commutation, and I don't blame her for trying. All they can say is no. She's already humiliated herself, her family, and brought shame to her former teammates. Not to mention, learning a way to teach her kid(s) that her legacy is not predicated by her mistakes. She doesn't have anything else to lose.

Winning is not everything...and even though I think Marion Jones should be punished for lying, I do not think its the government's role to be concerned about role models for kids. That is for the parents to make those decisions. We don't want to start the precedent for the government to make recommendations based on whether or not an athlete, politican, President, actor, teacher, doctor, lawyer makes good role models...people are people...there are good and bad people. Deny her request for another reason but not because of that...let's call it what it is...they are trying to make an example of her based on race....and yes, pleas talk more about the check fraud and explain how that and the drugs/perjury are crimes but not her decisions=role model...

Wow. So expecting somebody to tell the truth is being holier-than-thou. *smh*

So glad that I'm in the majority on this subject. My sympathy for Marion Jones ended when she confessed to lying. She's lucky she only got six months. She's lucky she only has two months left.

Let me know when she gets out. (*not*)

I think people are ignoring the fact that Marion was also found guilty of check fraud, not just steroids. Putting the steroids aside, do you still feel that 6 months time is too long?
To me, the solution to making the justice system more equal does not include looking the other way for Black perpetrators to even the score.

And addressing the steroids, by cheating, Marion stole glory, medals, not to mention endorsement money from the rightful winners. Every hustler will tell you a sob story about just trying to make it out.
This outlook doesn't make me holier than thou. Of course I've told lies in life. Some-I've gotten away with. The others - I had to deal with the consequences and so should Jones. It's "holier than thou" to think she shouldn't have to serve her time. She's no better than me. And I'm pretty sure I'd go to jail for passing multiple bad checks.
