Heavy sigh. OK, here goes. I love doing Afrobella giveaways, and I try to host them as often as I can. Most of the time, they go extremely well — I review a product I like and I think is worth your attention, end my post with an offer for you lovely bellas to win one of your own, comments flow in, I choose some at random, contact you, send info to the PR, you get a lovely free package in your mailbox shortly thereafter. It’s all good. But there have been some occasional disruptions in the giveaway procedure.
Sometimes I’ll hear from a winner months after the prizes have been sent out, who then says she never recieved her prize. Then I have to contact the PR to ask why, and it gets tricky from there on out. I’ve had some people up and disappear on me, or just shrug their shoulders and say they sent it and don’t know what happened. At that point, there’s nothing I can do except feel bad.
Being a beauty blogger who hosts regular giveaways involves a relationship of trust between myself and the product people, and also myself and you, the reader and giveaway contest enterer. If I don’t hear from you after you’ve gotten your item, I won’t know if you liked it, hated it, or never got it. Or got something you really, really weren’t supposed to. Let me tell you a funny, frustrating story with a super happy ending.
For my birthday, I hosted a Creme of Nature giveaway. Got lots of awesome birthday wishes, came back, chose winners, everyone’s happy, right? Then a month later, I heard from one of the winners. Roshanne. Thank you so much for writing, Roshanne!
She says in part:
“I am emailing to ask you about the contents of the giveaway… Ive gone completely natural and just yesterday i was fed up with my hair and thought about getting a relaxer and saying forget it…..
So today when i opened my box there was a relaxer kit in the box along with a bottle of shampoo..and conditioner….lol…I was like wow is this a sign….but seriously after this long and drawn out email were we suppose to get a relaxer in the giveaway i dont remember..”
OK. Imagine your reaction, if you were me — a beauty blogger with a website called AFRObella, entirely dedicated to preserving and loving natural hair. And a package containing a complimentary box of creamy crack is being sent out on your behalf. OMFG, as the Gossip Girl fans say. I was aghast. Horrified. I immediately wrote back to tell her, NO — this is SO NOT a sign, and I would never ever have asked the company to do that. “Stay strong, girl,” I told her. Sell that stuff on Ebay, or give it to a friend who uses relaxer, whatever you need to do.
Then I e mailed the PR, the lovely Angela, and asked her — did all TEN winners get this additional item in their giveaway package? It took her about a week to get back to me with the answer. Yes. OMFG.
And to think, I would never have known unless one of the winners actually wrote back to thank me and to ask — why the relaxer, Afrobella? Oh jeez.
I am pleased to report, after lots and lots of e mails back and forth, Angela set up a conference call for me, her, and Shawn Tollerson, the VP of Marketing for Creme of Nature. Shawn explained that it was just an oversight, they were trying to just give the readers even more of the products the company has to offer. As it turns out, some are afrobella-friendly, others aren’t. And they just wrapped up a big ol’ package and sent it out without catering to natural hair needs. Shawn was hilarious. She said, “I give you my humblest and most sincere apology. I myself am a natural woman, and my children are natural. When I found out what happened, I was like aaaaaaah! Patrice is gonna kill me!!” She made me laugh out loud. So we talked and talked, and figured out how we’re all going to make this giveaway glitch right.
First things first, the original winners are being sent a brand new Creme of Nature gift pack, which includes the products I like the most — soothing shampoo for dry hair and flaky scalp. the lemongrass and rosemary leave in creme conditioner, and my favorite of all, the red clover and aloe daily breakage relief.
And secondly, for 25 more of you lucky Afrobella readers, we’re offering another chance at a Creme of Nature giveaway. All you need to do is write a comment below that begins by saying, “Pick me, Bella!” And tell me what Afrobella giveaway you’d like to see in the future! As you can tell, I’m trying my best behind the scenes to get you all some of my favorite beauty products out there.
** edited at 6:37 p.m. — I’ll close these comments on Tuesday and pick winners next week!
Happy Friday!
** edited again Tuesday morning, at 8:05 — 155 comments! Whew. I’ve now officially closed entries for this giveaway. You’ve given me a whole lot to read, bellas! Thank you! My goal is to post winners by Friday.

Pick me Bella!
I would really love anything… I love a package of free in my mailbox… like when was young and the only mail I had was for the resident.
I would like to try Ms. Jessies curly pudding if you have another give away.
pick me Bella!
Shones
Pick me, Bella! It’s hard for me to tell you what I would want you to give away, because inherently a “giveaway” is fabulously free–how can I be picky!?! I’ll take whatever you’ve got, as long as you love it. 🙂

Pick me, Bella!
OMGoodness!!!!!!! A perm in the mail? Thank the Lord that was straightened out (forgive the pun).
I’d love to see a giveaway of Brunsli ties. My hair is an ever-expanding ‘fro and I wonder how the ties would work in holding back loose (and *tightly* curled) hair.
Brandee
And, btw, I am so waiting for your take on the Mariah nuptials. They look really happy and I sure hope things work out well.
TX Girl
Pick me Bella! It’s okay things happen, no harsh feelings. I was one of those winners too and I didn’t receive the prize. I got your email but I didn’t hear back. I just thought maybe you had gotten extremely busy, which I can imagine with your career and doing this. I knew in my heart you try to reach out to everyone. So I hope I can have another chance.
This was from the first Creme of Nature contest.

Pick Me Bella!!
I’ve only recently decided to go natural and stumbled upon your blog. I think it’s fate that I found your site b’cos I too am a Trini and I also live in Miami so I’ve been scouring your archives for all your hair tips & local “hidden” gems. I would like to win anything really to get me on my way to having and maintaining natural, healthy hair. Maybe some DevaCurl or some Miss Jessie’s products that you rave about. Or maybe a gift certificate for The Brow Shoppe. Caio Bella!!
Dominique
Pick Me Bella!

Pick me Bella!
A few months ago, I sat down and calculated how much money I spent yearly on styling my hair. The number was ridiculous to me – I broke it down and a majority of the money went to things that fought against my natural hair texture. Yet, when I compared my number with friends, it was surprisingly tame. At that point I decided I need to ease up on supporting this look that obviously wasn’t me. It’s also when I found your blog – a happy moment for sure. Anyway, three months later, I can proudly say that I’m a natural chica. (Yay!) It was really hard at first to deal with the reactions of my peers and expectations that people would treat me differently based on my hair. (It’s now the focal point of my thesis. )But in the end it’s been a very positive experience. I’m so happy I made the change. However, I’m still trying to negotiate which products work well with my hair and don’t dry it out or grease it down (ick). Sooo…yup, I’m wrapping it up finally 😛 …. a sample would be awesome. Other giveaways I’d like to see? Hair accessories because they can be lifesavers in a pinch.

***Sob story warning***
I’ve been natural for about a little over 2 years and I’m still trying to find products that work for my hair. Living in an area in NJ that is only about 8% African-American, it’s danged difficult to find makeup shades in my color, let alone stuff for my hair…**sobs**. Show a little mercy and pick me!!
Bella, I’d love to see a QP Elasta Mango Butter giveaway. I’ve only heard how glorious the Mango Butter is and I’d love to give it a try, but for reasons mentioned above, I can never seem to find it ’round here…
Nikki
Pick ME Bella PLEEEEAAASSEEEE!! I love your blog and I read it everyday. I’m a afrobella too and would love to try out the new products your offering. Love Ya, Nikki.

PICK ME BELLA!
Personally, I’d like to see you review and maybe give away Redken or Giovanni Direct products. I think Redken is coming out with a line catered towards natural hair in June, so it would be the perfect time to review it. You should review the Giovanni Direct line because the products are all natural, and being in the eco-conscious world we live in today, these products are perfect.

I would love to receive a fragrance giveaway of something you really like for summer!
Thanks!

I’d love to see Garnier soft Curl Cream, but I thing you mentioned that this product might be disappearing. I’d also enjoy hair accessory giveaways– items that are wooden or plastic and kind to curls. Any items that give other options for our hair.

Pick me, Bella! Wählen Sie mich, Bella! Me choisir, Bella! Whatever language you choose, pick me!!!! (btw, english, german, french, respectively…hahahahaha).
I’ve been relaxer free for almost 4 years. And yes, I struggle with my decision, primarily because of my despair with the trial and error of products. And I must admit that I get frustrated with my hair and sometimes long for the days of ease of when it was relaxed.
Some ideas for more giveaways can be more organic or earth friendly products, great products for baby bellas, city specific salon visit giveaways (yes, I know, I’m thinking grand), products that are geared toward skincare, gift certificates…..the list could go on and on.
Melanese
Pick Me Bella!
No…really…pick ME! I think you are the best. You are my fairy one stop shop blogger! I love you. In a reader, blogger way, of course. Think Julia and Tia (As in All About the Pretty and Shake Your Beauty, respectively).
Ok sorry for going off on that mini self-promotional tour. I would like to just see.more. of everything. I love your site. I know you have won an award or two for your site but I was most happy to see you elevated (in my opinion) to the next level when you were invited to NYC. I find your reviews of products to be very detailed and on occasion purchased based on your posts. I hope your passion for this only increases. Take care and don’t forget, Pick Me Bella
Sincerely,
Melanese

How about doing give aways for Carol’s Daughter (specifically the Hair Milk)…..not sure if you have done so in the past, as I’m a new reader.

Pick me! Please. I would love to try these New Creme of Nature products especially to for my itchy dry scalp. This would be very helpful in figuring out what my natural hair does and doesn’t like. I live in Toronto, Ontario Canada and have not seen much of this new line in stores. Sorry to hear about all the mix ups to date. Keep up the good work on the reviews and news it adds something different to my day. Take care.

Oh and oops forgot to put what giveaways I would like to see….maybe more natural hair products, MAC products or some more creative, funky hair accessories!

Pick Me, Bella! Hi There, I would love to see a mineral powder foundation giveaway. Any natural brand would do. I’ve been wanting to try mineral powder but usually I only see it online and I’m too afraid to buy and not like it. Thanks! (I won your Ambi giveaway a few months back, but I couldn’t find your rules for giveaways and if I would be elegible to win anything yet.)

I just decided to go natural, and I would love to see a giveaway with hair products for damaged hair. Still new to this whole thing so I’m learning as I go along. Thank you so much for your blog!! It gives me confidence that I can see it through.
I’m also a HUGE fan of bright eye makeup, and scarves, so hook us bellas up!!

I have to say that I absolutely love your blog. It’s hard for a black woman who wears her hair naturla to find positive reinforcement out there. You always have such great info & wonderful product reviews. Without Afrobella & Nappturality.com, I don’t now what I would do. So thank you & keep doing what you do. PS. . .getting some free products would also be great. . . hot a sista up. LOL

I would love to see a giveaway with some products from Phyto or Phytospecific. Their Phyto 9 cream is so moisturizing! I got tempted to try it after my hairstylist used the Phytospecific shampoo, conditioner and leave in conditioner on my hair. I think most of their products are plant based, so I would love to try more of their products!

If you felt that was a disaster, I had to stop giveaways because a few of the people never gave me the correct address. I spent almost $30 trying to send this one girl her gift from Mixed Chicks. I’m not sure If I’ll ever do one again. However, since you are natural Afrobella… Do you want this bottle of DevaCare No-poo. I’ll trade you for something or give it to you at $12 (free shipping).

Pick me, Bella! I would like to see more recommendations on hair salons that cater to natural bellas, I’m from the DC/MD/VA area…perhaps a free consultation, maybe?!!? Also perhaps having some before and after photos of readers/friends/family/whoever that have used the products you recommend.

Pick Me Bella!
I have been happily natural since 2001. But it is an ongoing stuggle…not to avoid perms, I never want to do that again! But wearing it and taking care of it is much harder…finding the right products, staying away from the bad stuff. I am currently wearing braids because the job market sucks and I need to ‘play the game’ and get some work! I’ve been looking since jan and just got a temp position. I usually use the braids to get the job and then let loose with the fro once established. Now that it’s time, I am very much looking forward to getting rid of the braids and sporting the real me…but now I am looking for new product! I am SOOOO a product junkie. My fave is natural shea butter, but it can get greasy. I’ve heard that the shampoo and leave in conditioner from Mixed Chicks is really good. I’ve been hesitant to try it becuz I am not a mixed chick…and neither is my hair! Very curly/coily, 4b or 4c…would that or Miss Jessie’s be a possible product available for giveaway???? Thanks so much!

I’d really love to see a giveaway featuring products by Oyin Handmade. I’ve read a lot about them on other natural hair care forums, and people seem to rave about so many of their products. But like a few other women have mentioned, I’d be so geeked to get a gift in the mail, anything would do!

PICK ME BELLA !
Oh gezz looks like I’m number 44 ! Well I’m in the transitioning stages and have been wearing twist and twist out styles and I’m still trying to experiment with new natural hair friendly products. The products that you like sound awesome especially the leave in conditioner! I would really like to see a product give away featuring small business that specialize in natural hair/skin care. Many of them have great ideas and great products, but just don’t have the PR or advertisements behind them to get the word out. Chose a great small business to help boost their exposure!

@Eminar — whenever I need a translation (like the recent title of one post was TTFN — I was like, whaa?? I too am of a certain age :-]), I type in “what does TTFN mean” or whatever acronym you’re trying to figure out in my search engine. I always find the answer. That way I can pretend to be all up on the lingo of the generation that probably did not ever type on an actual typewriter! Just a tip.

PICK ME BELLA!!!
I am wondering why the people who have been fortunate enough to win some contests have not given you feedback…. if the stuff didn’t work for them, I think their review would be great information for future giveaways. And Creme of Nature really gets the side eye for sending relaxers! It is wonderful that they are are redeeming themselves, though. As far as other giveaways, I liked the t-shirt and earring giveaways. More cool things like that to show off how awesome we all are. However, I really like all of your giveaways….. if only I could win one!
PICK ME BELLA! PICK ME!!!

Pick me, Bella! I would love to see a lipgloss giveway (any of your favorites will do) or maybe a mineral makeup giveway. I want to try some kind of mineral makeup, but I don’t know which brand would be good for me. I was one of the winners of the Ambi Even & Clear moisturizer. Unfortunately, it broke my skin out into a rash that took a week to clear. But that’s what happens sometimes. I still love to try new products and would love to try anything you give away. Thanks!
Jamilia
Pick Me, Bella! I would like to see a giveaway from LUSH. They have all sorts of goodies. I discovered them about a year ago and I absolutely love their Herbalism face cleanser. I would like to try other LUSH products but I don’t live near any of their retail stores, so I have to order online. More makeup giveaways would be good too (like IMAN or MAC).
Thanks!

Pick me, Bella!!!
I LOVE this blog, and it is your suggestions that have made my hair so happy this past year that I’ve been a reader. My natural hair is getting long, and with the length come more tangles and more challenges. I would LOVE to try these new products. Please, bella, I need an energy boost for my head!
In terms of other giveaways, I would love to see products for managing the hair- like brushes or other “comb out in the shower” or “refresh after a day or two” tools that people use. I mostly use my fingers, but again, as my hair grows and grows I find I need to figure out better tools. Any giveaways looking like that would make me most happy :).
I love your site with a special type of love because you’re Miamian- I grew up in Carol City/Opa Locka and I miss my tropical city. I hope I-95 isn’t giving you too much hell!
Thanks!

Pick me, Bella!!!
I’ve read your blog for a while but always miss the giveaways?!! Anyway, I’m really interested in Giovanni’s Direct Leave-in. I’ve read that it is a detangling master and I need something powerful to get through my thick mass of kinky coils! Great site!
Nicole
Pick me, Bella!!!
That was a CRAZY story about the Cream of Nature relaxers. I have been sporting locs for seven years and sometimes I have a nightmare about my hair being relaxed again! Anyway,I would love to see a Natures Gate giveaway. They have great shampoos and conditioners.
Candace
I was one of the original winners of the CON giveway. I thought the relaxer was odd, but figured the company was just trying to push their product. Not to worry Bella, I wasn’t offended! I just gave it to a co-worker in my office, so now I’m the Hair Product Fairy! 🙂
bella
Wow, that’s a whole lotta comments to get in a day! I will have to elaborate on the rules more clearly up at the top — I’ll close these comments on Tuesday and pick winners, bellas. And thank you TXGirl for commenting and then e mailing me — she got her package today, y’all! That makes me happy. Yay!

Pick me, Bella! My scalp itches as I write this. I’d love to try out that new dry scalp shampoo they have. Haven’t seen it around where I live.
Future giveaways? I’m clueless about makeup, I’d like to see a product a la temptalia.com that shows you how to apply eyeshadow, etc. Also, since it’s hard to find someone you trust with your hair, I’d like to know what I’m doing when I give myself a trim, what scissors should I use, how to care for them, at what angle to do I hold them, etc.
Love the site. Thanks.
Mrs.Mckinzie
Pick Me,Bella, because this product works so well on my hair.I have used up all of my leave in,and it is time for me to restock my supply so please pick me.I would love to see more scents, maybe a hair makeover, and some gift cards.

Pick me, Bella!
In the future, I’d like to see a giveaway of a natural hair care directory. It would include tips for styling, maintenance, etc. but also list natural hair salons/specialists in US cities (maybe just the major cities to begin). I’m not sure if something like this exists, but readers could submit their stylist’s/salon info and when compiled it could become this lovely, little resource sold on hair/beauty sites! =)

Pick me, bella! I’d love to hear your take on Moroccan Oil. I hear many a fabulous celeb use it for their natural hair namely Angela Bassett. Thanks!! Stay fabulous!
Here’s some more info: For centuries Argan oil has traditionally been used by women in Morocco to treat hair and nails in order to counteract the effects of the hot climate and aging. The Argan tree only grows in an area of South West Morocco called Argana. It flourishes in the desert-like conditions and produces lush fruits much like olives yet larger and rounder. Inside the fruit grows a large nut that houses up to three almond-shape kernels which are the source of the miraculous oil. Argan oil contains unsaturated fatty acids and is rich in tocopherols which works like vitamin E (nature’s most powerful antioxidant agent). Argan oil naturally renews cell structure and always consistently restores shines to dull lifeless hair

I would love to see more giveaways for women with locs. I don’t know all of the products that are out there, but I don’t enter a lot of your giveaways because I think the products would be better suited for someone with a ‘fro. I’m not hating because I rocked the ‘fro for a long time, but could you help a sista out now too?! Lol
Thanks!
Stacy
Pick me Bella!
I have been browsing your site since last year and I love it! I would love any products you give out on here on giveaways. However I am starting into make-up, so I would love to see more make-up giveways, particularly L’oreal HIP makeup. I am just now going back to perming my hair, and Creme of Nature products are some I been wanting to try, so I am excited to see those on here! Thanks!
Stacy

Sorry Afrobella and all the other natural sistas, just read the post about the products, I hope that doesn’t take away anything from me saying I started back perming from pressng my hair. I would still love them, though!

Please choose me Bella –
I came across this site about 2 months back and I think it’s wonderful. Been sporting the natural for 2 years along with braces. Both of these signifigant changes are progessing nicely. But having twists with braces makes me look like I’m 12 and I’m in my thirties. I would love to see make up giveaways so I could update my look.
Lisalis
Pick me Bella! I haven’t used Creme of Nature in ages. Being picked for a give away would be a great excuse to try it again.
God bless you for still being willing to offer give aways. It sounds like a big pain. Thanks for not giving up!

Pick me, Bella!
This is my first post, but I’ve been reading for a couple of years. You had some great posts this month, especially the one with “Little Bella” & the one with the link to The Frugalista!! Little Bella is actually the reason way I found you because I have 2 Little Bellas & my goal is to keep them chemical free. I did the big chop, well, my husband actually did it in December. I have grown to love it!
I’d love a giveaway with things for Little Bellas (age 10 & younger, books, products, accessories), Qhemet products, books or anything really. I’m easy.

Ok, so I am a new reader of your blog (dude, you’re awesome!), and honestly, you would never know how happy I am to find a site on natural “ethnic” hair (I say that because I’m Cuban and Black, and trust, I’ve had my fair share of [hair] fallouts with hair shop relaxers and other chemicals). I’m the girl that swears by olive oil, deep conditioners and the infamous Dominican blow-out (they seem to be the only ones that know what to do with my hair…). I’ve got that thick, coarse, and curly stuff that doesn’t hold braids and waves up when QP holding gel is slicked onto it. I’m always looking for the hair product that makes my hair much easier for me to take care of, because trust, its a hella handful!
But enough about me, just keep writing those fab blogs of yours!

PICK ME BELLA!!
I love my people!! When you talk about free, here we come boy!! 🙂 Me included!!
Anywho, after being natural for over 8 years I have relaxed my hair and I HATE IT!!!!! My hair was thick and curly and now that I have relaxed it, my hair feels limp and DEAD. (tear) I think my hair is sad and depressed. It no longer has any life or umph like it used to. I used to enjoy picking the beedy-bees from the nape of my neck on a daily basis. (One of my pastimes and those days are gone)
Now I have this lifeless, dull, depressingly, unoriginal hairstyle. I feel like everyone else now. When I had my curly natural I was different,I felt like a warrior or a soldier. Now I feel like an idiot for doing this when I know better. Don’t get me wrong, I am not knocking sisters with relaxers but i just regret my decision to revert to one again. My hair is even falling out. I am not sure if it is because I decided to relax it myself after so many years, but I have been relaxing my own hair since I was 11 years old. (long story)
As you all will see I most assuredly NEED the Creme of Nature products.
Oh, I do hope you can give away Phyto products. I received a free sample from Sephora and I LOVE IT!!!!! Now I know to avoid products with Petroleum and petrolatum in them, as they are BAD FOR THE HAIR!!!!!

i am struggling to find a hair treatment that moisturizes well but doesn’t weigh my curls down too much i.e. can’t take too much grease or i look like something straight of the soul glow ad in coming to america- just let your SOOOOUL GLOOOW lol.
i’ve been hearing about this brand “mixed chicks”
are you familiar with it? whats the low-down? could these be a possible giveaway?

I’d have to say i’m down for a gallon of gas give away. These prices are KILLIN a sistah!
But ok ok…since I know it would be a bit of a stretch to send that in the mail lol, i’ll have to be more realistic and go with Miss Jesse’s. I love your reviews, but the price range is just a bit too steep for a struggling college student such as myself. I’ve also heard great things about Oyin items as well. And i’ve been attempting to crossover to more natural based products and break away from some of the cones. So anything in that area would be great. But honestly, any product of your choosing would be great in my book. Afrobella knows how to pick em 🙂

Pick me, pretty please with cherries on top!
I’d love to try something new. Even though I’ve discovered and highly recommend another product for dry/damaged hair (natural or otherwise).
My hair is color treated and natural. Because I’ve ligthened it, it requires regular deep conditioning treatments to keep it from looking and feeling like straw. Voila: Kiehl’s olive fruit oil repairative hair deep conditioner. There’s also a companion shampoo. They leave my hair feeling and smelling amazing.

PICK ME BELLA!!
Because,
1. I live in South Korea. LOVE IT, but
2. I soooo miss seeing my favorite haircare products. I try not to be a product junkie, but
3. I am a big supporter of natural brands–Aubrey Organics, Jason, DevaCurl, KCCC, etc. I have always made a lot of my own concoctions for body and hair, BUT,
4. Being here I’ve missed out on a whole new world of black-owned haircare companies started by other mixtresses, and
5. I’m just dying to try Mixed Chics and Oyin to name a few!
6. Oh and one more thing. I’ve been natural forever, having had only 3 or 4 curly crack attacks ever in life (thanks Mom). I have inspired who knows how many women to join the natural tribe and helped them to learn the ropes. I am truly passionate about natural hair, and that is why you should PICK ME BELLA!! Love you…

I have devoted the last six years of my life to obtaining my Ph.D.. At times, my hair game has suffered. I am still natural but I am sometimes too tired to really put the time and effort into creating easy to-to, beautiful afro styles. I would love to receive the Brunsli hair accessories and/or the Miss Jessie’s Buttercream. I’m an infrequent commenter but an avid reader and am soooo proud of the success your experiencing. Kudos sista’!
Tiffany
That is sweet.
I was surprised but figured, beggars cannot be choosers!
I ended up sending my mine to a pregnant friend
who wanted to go back to the relaxer after she had given birth.
That leave-in sounds great

Pick me, Bella.
I would LOVE to see a giveaway and review of Anita Grant products! All of her stuff sounds so wonderful that I am having trouble deciding where to begin with my purchase.
Also, the Shu Uemura cleansing oil you mentioned in a previous post sounded absolutely DIVINE. That would be a great giveaway.
Having the opportunity to win a Denman brush would be awesome. I have read so many great things about them that I’d love to run one through my kinks and curls.
I’ll stop now, because I could go on and on. Thanks for your dedication to this site and celebrating the beauty in Afrobellas around the world!

PICK ME BELLA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂
Your website has amazing giveaways, and I sincerely appreciate the fact that you show your readers some love with the giveaways. I know this is a beauty blog, but I have learned about some incredible music artists and songs because of you. Thanks to you, I am now a fan of Debarge, Mahalia Jackson, Chrisette Michele and Syl Johnson. It would be cool to do giveaways of your favorite CDs, or of CDs of up and coming artists that you like. My favorite genres of music are R&B and neo-soul, but I have a very open mind to many different types of music and I know you do too. I would love to know what some of your favorite songs from other genres are too…rock, country, dance, techno, opera…you name it!
Ohhh I just came up with another idea! You should start a new feature of the blog called “Bella’s Playlist” (or whatever you’d like). Every 2 weeks, or once a month you could share with us some of your favorite songs of the moment or from your childhood! You could also share any personal stories that you may associate with those songs. From reading this blog, I can tell that music means a lot to you…I hope you consider this idea!
Have a great weekend!!!!!

I’ve been natural for a year now, and I’m still looking for products that will help eliminate my dandruff problems. I’ve been ordering products from Oyinhandmade, but it takes awhile for me to recieve it in the mail. If you have any of the curly pudding by Ms. Jessie’s, or another product line to showcase, that would be great! The only natural haircare products I know of are Oyin and Jessie’s (I’ve never tried Jessie’s) , and I’m willing to try something new! I really want my hair to be healthy and strong. I need something in bulk to last me a while. Thanks!!

I forgot to add, a diy guide on natural hairstyles would be great!

Pick Me, Bella! I love your site. It gives me the motivation to stay natural during the tough periods where I can’t do *anything* with my hair. I would love to see a Curly pudding giveaway or Beauty for Ashes. Or maybe a mineral makeup package.

Pick me, Bella!
I stopped relaxing my hair 8 years ago and started to rediscover my natural hair. I love it and am always getting compliments on my curls. I also love that I’m not exposing my hair to harsh chemicals on a monthly basis. So, imagine my surprise when I went to the salon last month to get a hair cut and my stylist tells me my hair has severe water damage from washing it 2-3 times a week to keep the curls fresh and using products heavy in alcohol that are drying out my hair. I guess this is a long winded way of me saying that I would love to see a giveaway of goodies that would help me to keep my hair natural and curly and healthy. I’m open to anything!
Thank you for doing what you do!

You are a great help to many people.

Pick me Bella! I just discovered this site and am in LOVE! I’m rocking a short natural do while working on my PhD in a very small town (spitting distance from the border of IDAHO)in Washington State. We’ve got absolutely nothing in the way of hair products for women of color – except for the creamy crack. lots of that – and it is at least an hour and a half drive to the nearest braiding salon. 6 or more to get across the state to Seattle. My research focuses on racial and ethnic identity formation in adolescent girls of color and looks for ways for them to resist the beauty ideals the media and our society try to force on them. So….please! Help me save some gas and lead by example. I’m not picky. I know that anything you send is better than anything I could ever buy locally.
Sorry for the long post, but I’m so happy to have found you!

I don’t have a specific item but was wondering have you tried any all natural products. I was natural for about 15 years, moved to California to be near my sister and started to perm my hair again. I’ve since come to my senses and have gone back to my natural ways but decided to dye my afro blond. LOVING IT! I am now trying to make sure that my blond fro stay healthy and would love any advice you may have to offer. I’ve even started making some of my own stuff!

I would love to see a giveaway with the redken smooth down line. I have heard naturals as well as relaxed ladies rave about the line especially the smooth down butter treat. I had to give it a try and what do you know, the smooth down butter treat is heavenly.
Anyway keep up the great work with your blog.

Pick me Bella! I have really enjoying your website. I wish I had known about you when I transitioned back in 2004. I lost a lot of hair back then, and it was very hard not to break down and get a relaxer. The only thing that kept me from hitting up that “creamy crack” was that I was pregnant! Well I am still all natural, and I simply LOVE to try new products. My husband will probably freak about me putting yet another product under our bathroom sink(he’s still under the delusion that we “share” that space) , but oh well! A sistah has to look good!

Thank you so much for your web site and wonderful advice. I never would have discovered how wonderful Devacurl no poo cleanser is for my hair. Thank you! For future giveaways, I would love to see reading material such as “Curly Girl” or another publication devoted to coily and curly hair. A book with lots of pictures so when I get fed up and frustrated, I can look at beautiful bellas with natural hair and become inspired once again.

Pick Me, Bella!
I am a black woman living in a Canadian city where I don’t have very much access to black hair products. I would love a package to help me get started on my path to natural hair. I have been doing research into transitioning ever since my hair began to fall out. The dermatologist says that it has nothing to do with processing my hair, but it sure can’t be helping! That started me thinking about how I have never met my natural hair. I started processing at age 6, and haven’t stopped. I see my mixed race nieces hating their curly hair, and wonder what kind of example I am setting for them by chemically altering my hair. I worry for my own children when they come, and can it possibly be safe for me to have those chemicals on my skin while I am pregnant? I recently cut out plastic bottles because of the chemicals they can leach into the water, but what about the chemicals I willingly put on my own body in search of a kind of beauty, when my own natural beauty should suffice? Why aren’t I good enough the way God made me? Anyway, I am committed to transitioning, but it would be a huge support to have some products to help with the process…
Thank you so much for your blog! I have learned so much about my own hair here, and found a community of women in your readers who have been down the path before me. Every set of feet before me makes that path a little straighter (or curlier!) and easier to travel. Thanks, Bellas!
Cynthia
By the way, I would love to see a Devacurl, Ouidad, Miss Jessie’s or Ojon giveaway at some time in the future!!!

I am not very comfortable posting this but I am a big fan of Creme of Nature products and have been using them for years and I PROUDLY relax my hair. I would have been very happy to recieve the creme relaxers as I keep them on standby when I can’t make it to my stylist. So please consider me for your contest. I can’t tell whether this contest is for persons with natural hair only or not. You didn’t specify.
I love the make up giveaways and would love to see more of them.
Thank you for your hair work. It is appreciated! 🙂

When I started to read your post and I got to the part with the relaxer in it..I cringed!!! ;0) but it’s good to see that everything was able to be fixed.
I think the next giveaway should be of L’Oreal’s HIP makeup collection. The eyeshadows are to die for and they give MAC a run for their money. I absolutely love them and I think other women should too!!!
I absolutely love your site. It’s one of my daily blog reads…Keep it up!!!

Okay, actually – Hi! I’ve been lurking here for a while because I love your reviews of hair/body/beauty products and your focus on products for women of color made by women of color – I’m a hair product junkie and I love to support businesses that cater to women with my hair type.
I’d actually like to see more of what you’ve already been giving us – product reviews, tips and the occasional political piece is fine with me as well. I’d really like more features on natural hair maintenance. Until earlier this month, my version of ‘natural’ was no relaxers but I heat-styled my hair all the time (hot press, anyone?). I just started med school in the caribbean and I can already tell that I’m going to have to redefine “natural” since the hot comb and flat iron aren’t going to cut it in this humidity! As for future giveaways – I’m always willing to try a new hair product, especially one with all-natural or organic ingredients.
Anyway, thanks for caring about what your readers think and giving us presents for reading!!

I love your blog. I would love for you to give away more make up products. I am starting to become more of a makeup person.
This giveaway is wonderful because, it allows me to experiment with more types of shampoos and conditioners. I only use deep conditioners and conditioners on my hair to help keep it moisturized. I dont trust shampoos to much to do it, but I want to give it a try.

Even though I’m a relaxed head I love this blog and I would like to see a give-a-way of Afrobella’s Essentials. Maybe like 5 things that if you were stranded on an island that you would HAVE to have. Hair products, beauty products, or whatever you would just HAVE to have.
Or an Ease into Transitioning Give-a-way. Something for the ladies who are trying to transition into being relaxer free, maybe like moisturizers, shampoos specifically for dry hair, leave-in treatments, etc.

Pick me Bella!!! Oh pretty, pretty please pick a sistren :)!! You can’t imagine the many ways you inspire me! I’ve emailed a little of my story before. It’s been about 6 mnths since the big chop and my Afrobella discovery. I’m devoted and Afrobella has become a lovely part of my day. Never thought I would enter a giveaway, (I think its the 25 that has me all open and hopeful) plus my Walmart is missing so, so many pieces of the new Creme and Nature collection that the wait and see approach just ain’t working out… LOL! Hello, I actually stumbled upon this site a few weeks ago when I was googling info about natural hair. I am a recent natural goer and it is a learning proccess to understand how to care for natural hair. We do not go about it in the same manner we would with processed hair. I was very pleased to see the wealth of information you have available and the variety of products, from the high end to the most economical end.
A product that I’d like to know more about would be Carol’s Daughter and Miss Jessie’s.

Pick me, Bella!
First, I want to say thank you for having such a wonderful blog. It is such an inspiration to have a woman who advocates for natural hair, out here. I decided to go natural on my 16th bday, I went to get my hair done, for my birthday, kept it nice and wrapped up, when it was time to take it out for my party it was frizzed up! in addition to the burnt scalp (ouch)! From that day forward I said enough is enough. Foremost, I was tired of doing a constant 4-6 hour process. Secondly, learning and immersing myself in social justice for my African American community, I felt personally, I need to accept everything that made me part of the African diaspora and I believed one of those things is my natural hair. So here I am 5 years later with natural hair.
TO be honest, I am still trying to figure out how to have the healthiest hair and a god regiment for myself. THat is what I appreciate the most about your blog:
(And this is what I would like to see more of!!) I can constantly, get tips on new products, affirmations of why natural hair is it!
Again Thanks!
Best: Adora

Pick ME Bella,
I am so so SO happy I stumbled upon this site a few months ago!! I love my natural hair but it’s been hard going. Your blog keeps a smile on my face and helps me resist the creamy crack urges. Mucho kudos for that.
I like the idea of natural health/body care giveaways. There is so much good stuff out there but it’s hard to find if you don’t know where to look.
Many thanks

“Pick Me Bella!”
Hi Bella, just wanted to say that I have been natural for about 6 years now. However, it gets tough sometime dealing with it. My hair tends to get immune to products after a while, and now is that time for a change. I would love to try the new Creme of Nature products. After all, for years I watched my dad use the shampoo. As far as future giveaways, I would just be grateful to get anything for free. You know the GAS prices are ridiculous and not getting any cheaper. So with that, peace and many blessings.

Pick Me Bella!!!
My 13 year old daughter has decided to go natural. After 2 disasterous perm experiences she has decided has sworn off chemicals forever. This has been a year of transition. She weathered some bad breakage but things are looking good.
Her hair is thick and dry – it drinks up moisturizer.
I am experimenting with lots of products and would love for her to have something new to try. The Cream of Nature line looks good.
I was so excited to find your site and to know there is a lot of support for women who wear natural hair.
Thanks so much.
