Maybe you’ve been stressed out. Maybe you’ve been going through some thangs. Or maybe you just deserve to treat yourself.
Whether it’s one of the above or all three, you really should make an appointment for Spa Week. From April 16 to 22, some of America’s finest relaxation and beauty treatment establishments will be offering their typically pricey services for a mere $50. Participating places include Arizona, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Detroit, New York, Philly, San Diego, San Francisco, Washington DC… even Montreal Canada is getting down on the affordable action.
Here in Miami, the swank and swishy Agua Spa at the Delano and the Spa at the Shore Club was offering lush outdoor manis and pedis for the ultimate South Beach indulgence. I’m thinking of going for the Spring Clean facial. Also — don’t feel left out of the decadence, afrofellas! I interviewed Terry Prager, the super-busy director of both the Delano and Shore Club spas, and she says they’re expecting lots of dudes this year. Because y’all need facials and massages too! April’s basically here already, so make your appointment today! You can thank me later.
I know quite a few of you regular visitors are creative types. Maybe you make films, or music. Or you design clothes. Or you’re an artist. However you express your creative vision, if you’re ready to quit hiding your talent under a rock and share your skills with the world, check out the Uncover/Discover contest by Biore and Gen Art. Talented women in film, fashion, music, and art can compete for a $20,000 grant. That’s sweet music to any starving artist’s ears.
If you’re still a-scared of blush or don’t know how to use it, check out The Makeup Girl’s latest review. It could be the product you didn’t realize you needed!
I don’t know what took me so long to finally watch Showtime’s Weeds, but it is absolutely my favorite show right now. From the opening song to the end credits, I can’t express my love enough. Mary Louise Parker is so amazing, beautiful, vulnerable, and real.
My favorite scenes are when she goes to re-up at Heylia’s place. Romany Malco, AKA the black dude from The 40 Year Old Virgin is high-larious. And I love Kevin Nealon all over again. I can’t believe I haven’t been watching this show all along. Seriously, don’t be an idiot like I was. Get season one TODAY.
Here’s another thing you might not know about me… I have flat feet. Like seriously, almost completely flat Flintstones feet. When I walk on the beach, I leave a complete foot shaped print on the sand. Not cute or dainty. I might be cute, but I’ve never been a dainty sort of lass.
Because my feet are so flat — and also because I don’t understand why we women torture ourselves with crazy shoes like those at 6 Inch Heels Forever — I never, ever wear heels. Ever. I mean — seriously? I couldn’t walk ten steps in these. Lucky for me, there’s a plethora of adorable, feminine flats on the market.
I’ll do a big fabulous shoe post if you bellas are interested, but for now, let me introduce you to my new fave shoes.
I just got a pair of lo fi brown and gold PF Flyers and they look fabulous with jeans, and they’d be adorable with spring party dresses like the ones I’m eying in that Old Navy ad.
And while I’m mentioning Old Navy, their current ad campaign might actually get me to go back to that store. I’d stopped shopping there for like a year now, after visiting several times and finding myself surrounded by an out-of-control pack of clearance hungry jackals and clothing that was beyond meh. But now, hello cute dresses in women’s and women’s plus!
“I bet if you were to bitch slap the side of his neck you could use his sweat as a skin moisturizer.” Oh Lord, I needed a laugh yesterday and Fresh from Crunk and Disorderly gave me one with her Jermaine Jackson photo post. And she’s right, Jermajesty’s father does stay casket sharp. Whenever I’m feeling low, I stop by C&D.
Brian’s music posts are among my favorite things about Concrete Loop. Thanks to his latest one, I officially can’t get that Timbaland and MIA track, “Come Around” out of my head. “dun-dundadun-dundadun-dunda-dun-dun, beat goes on…” Over and over again, looping through my brain. Thanks, Brian!
I’ve been in a funk all week long. You better believe I’m gonna shake myself out of it tonight. I’m gonna hit happy hour after work and do this weekend right!
This song sets my tone for the weekend.
I love that song, but Johnny Kemp might have the worst hairstyle of all time in that video — a lesson in what NOT to wear for afrofellas. Oh well.
Have a great weekend, y’all!!

I would love a shoe post. I sometimes wear heels, which is why I have corns on my pinky toes. 🙁 I have been searching high and low for some cute and comfortable flats to wear to work and such. Cute and comfortable seems to be a combination that is few and far between. Especially when you wear an 11.

I can relate as to the shoes issues, I have a high arch and finding good walking shoes is a must. Love the post as alaways 🙂 Have a good weekend 🙂
Davina
ouch, those 6inch heels look painful! what is the point of them? Personally I do wear heels sometimes but no higher than 3 inch and I find that platform heels are easier to walk in. I might go and check out Old Navy too, looks like they have some nice stuff for spring! 🙂
Nerd Girl
I bought that long flowly floral print dress from the Old Navy commercial they’re running right now, and it really is too, too cute! I’d about given up on clothes from there for myself – I’m tall, and I find their clothes to run a little on the short side – but the dress is fabulous and I love shopping there for my Lovegirl. Have a great weekend!

I enjoy shoe shopping, but sometimes finding cute shoes for my wide size 11 feet is sometimes difficult. I am one of those tall chicks that actually likes wearing heels and high heeled boots, but I don’t do anything over 3 1/2 inches or so, and platform heels are nicere to walk it. I am also loving the wedge espadrilles that are out now for spring–very cute and they make my banana feet look small. I love C & D–they talk like me and my friends do about stuff. Aside from the new quote about Jermaine Jackson, my favorite quote of this last week from there refers to “rotisserie chest syndrome”. I about fell out of my chair!

Thanks for the information on Spa Week. I’ll be making an appointment.

I’m also a tall chick that wears sizes 10 and 11s. Lately, I’ve been stopping in at Payless and DSW Shoes to get my flats fix. They have really cute styles for our size, and I’m really picky.
I like the Makeup Girl’s review on blush. I just bought the MAC “Barbie Loves MAC Powder Blush” in “Don’t Be Shy.” It’s a really hot pink that looks great on brown skin. It’s been selling out really fast so if you can’t get it from them, try a nice hot pink in another line, even a drugstore line. Don’t sleep on the pinks for the spring.

OOOOOOO Spa Week!! Thank you so much for sharing that little tidbit. That just made my day. I swear…it’s the little things! Just in time for the “Bless Becomes Bootylicious” life campaign I’ve just embarked on. YAY!!!

I’d love a shoe post, too. A couple months ago O(prah) magazine did a spread on shoes and featured an X-ray of a foot in a high-heeled shoe–enough to make you never wear one–I posted that in my closet at a reminder. I do wear heels, but only when I know I’m only going to be walking or standing for a minimal amount of time. At the same time, a flat without support can hurt as bad or worse than a heel! I have some ballet flats from J. Crew that are among my most uncomfortable shoes to walk in.
RJ
wow, those 6 inch heels forever are really amazing! thanks for sharing

I will try to take advantage of Spa week this time around. Where in the world did you find those heels-they look very painful? and I know alot of fools who stay casket ready-all you gotta do is slide em in the coffin…

afrobella, i would love to see a post about shoes…shoes are definitely an addiction of mine…i also have no arch at all but i love heels they just don’t love me back, so i tend to go back&forth btwn heels and flats… i think that wedges are the most comfortable style of heel i can walk and stand in for long periods of time…thanks for providing the link to pf flyers those are definitely shoes i can wear to my new job on a daily basis

Hey Bella!
Well, I used to work at Aldo’s, (a nice shoe store) so I have a ton of heels. I’m only 19 but you bet I can walk, dance and spend the entire night in my 4 inch heels. However, I LOVE flats and wedges. I just got two pairs of really nice wedges at Old Navy: one pair was about 16.50 and the other 22.50. So cheap! Old Navy has really nice things for spring. I’ve been trying to find a blush that looks good on me. I’m Hispanic with a light caramel complexion but I get really tan in the summer. I just want to find something that looks good on me now and for the summer.

Yessssssss,
Please do a shoe post when you have time. I’m shopping for shoes right now and thought I’d see if you’d ever done a post on inexpensive or reasonably priced fashionable shoes. 🙂
Thanks for the link above!
