‘Tis the season, bellas!
I have two holiday parties to attend in Miami (sad to say, both on the same day. Every year, both of our office parties are on the same day! So we have to go to one first, then spend the rest of the night at the other. So annoying) and at least one big party to attend in Trinidad. I already bought a dress, an elegant black and lilac silky number that slips on as comfortable as a nightgown. Loving it.! But my favorite part isn’t the dress, or the shoes, or the accessories (although I’m a complete shoe and jewelry fiend, trust me!) – it’s the makeup.
The holidays are the time to glam it up and try out new stuff you haven’t tried before. I love to go the extra mile with my makeup and take my holiday photos looking fab. To me, the adage that “less is more” and “pick either a bold eye or a bold lip but not both” totally goes out the window.
Look at this beautiful model from a recent Sephora catalog for inspiration. She’s absolutely amazing with a bold, smoky eye, and a glossy, gorgeous lip, and that’s a perfect holiday party look.
Since my dress isn’t shiny or glittery and the color is a subtle, dusky lilac, I can play up my makeup to the hilt (If you’re wearing a really bold dress, bright makeup might be over the top. Proceed with caution).
I love this Pop Glitter Stix Trio and I totally plan to buy it as a little present to myself. Gold on dark skin is so amazingly resplendent, and I also love accentuating my chocolate brown eyes with emerald green, cool blue, or in-between ocean shades like aqua or turquoise.
Because my dress is lilac, I plan on getting this Urban Decay Heavy Metal Glitter Liner in Headbanger purple. Because I’ll be partying all night long, I want to ensure that my makeup stays intact. That’s why I’ll be using Urban Decay Primer Potion, as well. Kristen from Beauty Addict adores this product, and I trust her judgement implicitly.
I also want to use a great, long-lasting eyeshadow, and I know Bare Escentuals is some of the best makeup around. So I’m contemplating getting their Wearable Eye Kit in Meet the Plums, three mineral shadow pigments that I know will last and look great until the wee hours. But because my dress is closer to the color of lavender flowers, I’m going to go for DuWop Smoke shadow in Plum Wine.
Few things are more fab than a smoky eye.
I’m going to use my beloved L’Oreal HIP Blendable Blushing Creme, and to add a beautiful shimmer, I’m going to snag a sample of Glam Box Gelee D’Ors. This lightweight shimmering gel can be used anywhere for full-body bling. But because I won’t use a product like this every day, a sample from Sephora should set me straight. (Bellas on a budget – don’t feel bad about asking for a few product samples, especially if you buy an item or three!)
I have more lipgloss than I know what to do with, but I really, really want to get the Philosophy A Few Good Men lipgloss trio, three yummy glosses in The Ice Cream Man (pink bubble gum ice cream), The Gingerbread Man (ginger ale), and The Milkman (chocolate milk). OMG, I love Philosophy sooooo much! I know I’ll want to just eat these up, but I love yummy lips. This will be perfect for that New Year’s kiss!
In terms of color, I’ll slick on my MAC Lustreglass in Angelwing. Love it!
What’s your holiday look?
