When I think of head bands and hair ties, I instantly think of one person. Mr. Jimi.
He made that particular hair accessory iconic. Sometimes, when I rock a scarf I think to myself – is this too Jimi Hendrix? Well, it depends on the kind of scarf and the time of day. But one of the coolest things about having big, crazy curls is that you automatically get a Little Miss Dramatic pass. Your hair is bold, so go ahead and work it with glam jewelry, bright colors, and eye-catching hair accessories. Even though we don’t get the season here in Miami, scarves are totally fall. I’ve been seeing some super cute hair accessories on sale, and when I put my fall wardrobe together (is that too fashion dorky? Doesn’t everyone do that?) I’m totally going to get three trendy accessories to kick the look into high gear.
Skulltastic: ~ I thought the skull trend would be over already, but it might be here to stay for a while. I love it. It lets me express my feelings non-verbally on my “don’t mess with me†days. I already have this hella cute skull headband from Hot Topic. What I also like about it is, it isn’t too tight like so many other headbands can be. It’s super loose and comfortable. But I want a skull scarf now, for those extra fierce “arrrrrrr matey†moments.
WTF? All of a sudden Target is jumping into the “overpriced shit†game. Peep this hot and trendy scarf that costs like $50 bucks. Why, Target, why? If that was ten dollars, I’d already be wearing it right now. Instead, I’m going to buy this at Hot Topic for $8.99. That’ll learn ya, Tar-jay. I could also get the look for less at Urban Outfitters, a store I normally avoid that has some super cute scarves right about now. Which brings me to trend numero dos.
Stripes and stripes forever: ~ Here’s the power of using an Afrobella in your ad:
Isn’t she lovely? Work it, girl! I love her hair with this accessory so much, I’m gonna get me one.
Meow, baby: ~ In the spirit of Justin Timberlake’s latest ass-shaker, I’m bringing sexy back. For me, that means leopard print. I’m a complete sucker for any animal print. What I love about leopard is, the colors so often compliment my skin tone. It’s fierce but still understated enough to go with the ginormous chocolate brown portion of my wardrobe. Seriously, I have enough skirts, tops, and shoes to have a week of only chocolate colored clothing. The leopard headband will go perfectly with these adorable furry Chinese shoes I bought on Ebay for $5. Don’t get them wet, they might be made out of Gremlin fur for all I know… but the shoes are comfy and super kawaii. I get lots of compliments on them. So much so that I have mary janes from China Direct Store in myriad colors. $5 for a pair of shoes? Fuggedaboutit. This Afrobella loves a bargain!

i recently was forced on this bandwagon, my hair artist insisted i throw out my platic headband with teeth after she saw all the breakage i had in the front. kinda happy about it now no headband headaches

I love the scarf look. Im growing my hair out now and I cant wait to be able to rock the scarf thing myself. Im also feeling the whole long sweater layered thing. Ive always loved the fame look. bella, I do put my fall wardrobe together as well…updating, feeling the flow of the season, how i wanna be,etc. Its one of my favorite seasons so im ready.
Siobhan
i rocked the scarf look all last summer and can’t wait to update with the skull look but i’ll also be going the hot topic route. $50 for a target scarf that’s not even silk? me thinks not… i’m not feeling a lot of what’s out there for fall (a large sweater + skinny jeans = NOT FRESH for a bella with broad shoulders and 36G boobs) so i’m waiting a bit before pulling together the new autumn looks. don’t trip though, you aren’t the only one! i love you site but wondering, why do you avoid urban outfitters? p.s. i WILL be ordering the leopard print mary janes, thanks for the heads up 🙂

Those leopard print Mary Janes are too cute!! I too love animal prints and must get more..Thanks for the link.

Hey Siobhan! Here’s the reasons I avoid Urbn. 1. I’m on the plus size, so although the clothes are super cute, I can’t shop there.
2. I think they’re overpriced. Told ya, this Bella loves a bargain! I just looked at shoes on their site, and check it out. These cute embroidered mary janes cost $14 at Urban Outfitters. The same shoes cost $5.50 at China Direct Store!
Shipping for two pairs is $4.10. So if you get two pairs, (I loved this dragon embroidered pair so much, that when my first pair wore out I bought a replacement.)
The total would be less than the Urban Outfitters twofer.
I sound like a damn commercial. LOL =)
I never got into the skinny jeans thing. I am all about comfort, so I definitely prefer flares. I’m also feeling the wide leg look.
keena
i think why tar-jay is gettin pricey cuz they got that freggin “couture” line. i know right.. target + couture= oxymoron. thats like wal-mart pullin a stunt like that! lol
